Bindery Machine Operator

Originally established as a quick-print shop in the Portland area, our client quickly became known as a leading local resource for fast-turnaround printing needs of local businesses.

SUMMARY
This position helps in various areas at the end of production. This position has overall responsibility for setting up and operating a variety of machines. A quality-driven candidate with an eye for detail is the ideal fit for this role.

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 7 am - 3:30 pm
PAY: Tier based on extent of direct skills and qualifications:
Minimum qualifications: starting at $20/hr
Mid-Level (some direct Bindery experience): up to $25/hr
Experienced (multiple years of Bindery Machine Operation): $25/hr+

DUTIES:

• Operates production equipment, including but not limited to printers, binders, and trimmers.
• Adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion.
• Use a die-cutting machine to create unique cut-out pages for pop-up books, cut decorative cover embellishments from foil or other materials, or cut paper into individual pages.
• Operate a large cutting machine to cut paper stock into uniformly-sized press sheets, which in turn become pages in a book or other publication
• Operate a Saddle-stitching binding machine to drive staples through the centerfold of the signatures for magazines and other smaller, thinner publications.
• Work independently to maintain consistent quality throughout the run and maintain quantity counts.
• Communicates with the team and escalates issues when equipment is not working properly.
• Be available and willing to assist in other stations of production as needed.
• Maintain a high level of efficiency, performance quality, and a positive and helpful attitude.
• Able and willing to learn new tasks, adjust workflows to accommodate production levels, and correct mistakes.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 1 year in a production or assembly line environment with positive references.
• Minimum 6 months working in a printing production or commercial mailing facility.
• Highly prefer experience with Saddle Stitching or other Bindery Machine operations.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds consistently.
• Must be able to sit or stand on your feet all day and be able to bend, turn, twist, and lift.
• Must be able to understand and communicate in English and follow operator instructions.
