Pay Range: $21/hr - $31/hr DOE
Job Summary
The CNC Machinist II is a mid-level role responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and components. This position requires strong machining knowledge, blueprint interpretation skills, and a solid understanding of quality control procedures. The Machinist II performs complex setups with minimal supervision, supports production and engineering needs, and ensures all parts meet exact specifications.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with CNC and/or manual machining, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Adheres to all engineering instructions, standard operating procedures, and departmental guidelines.
- Performs machine setups on manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for all part types with light assistance.
- Executes typical machine shop operations to support production and assembly areas.
- Maintains a clean, organized work area and follows all safety regulations.
- Performs preventative maintenance per PM charts and conducts visual inspections for wear or damage.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, and job orders for all machining processes.
- Trains incoming Operators and Setup Technicians as needed.
- Uses standard measuring tools-including micrometers (O.D./I.D.), calipers, bore gages, protractors, height gages, micro-height gages, optical comparators, molds, and depth gages-to verify part accuracy.
- Verifies gage calibration and ensures proper use of fixturing for all setups.
- Demonstrates knowledge of tooling, its functions, and proper application.
- Shows familiarity with CNC programming languages and performs basic program edits or creation as needed.
- Applies working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Follows machine safety and lubrication procedures according to equipment manuals.
- Assists other departments when approved by management.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in CNC machining environments.
- Strong mathematical aptitude and proficiency with handheld measuring tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English. Ability to support other departments with management approval.
- Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and strong teamwork skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality; must remain at workstation through shift and stay until properly relieved when required.
- Maintains respectful, courteous interactions with internal teams and customers.
- Upholds integrity, safety, and adherence to workplace policies.
- Frequently required to stand for extended periods, walk, reach, and use hands to handle materials.
- Must frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs with assistance.
- Works in a shop environment with exposure to heat, cold, humidity, high noise levels, coolants, and lubricants.
