Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Estimating Director to lead estimating and preconstruction efforts for large-scale infrastructure, industrial, utility, and EPC projects. This individual will oversee the estimating team, develop competitive project strategies, and partner with operations, engineering, procurement, and business development teams to drive profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all estimating and preconstruction activities for complex construction and infrastructure projects.
- Develop estimating standards, procedures, cost databases, and best practices.
- Oversee conceptual, budgetary, negotiated, design-build, and competitive bid estimates.
- Review labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect cost assumptions.
- Lead risk assessments, contingency planning, and pricing strategy discussions.
- Collaborate with business development and operations teams to support project pursuits and proposal development.
- Facilitate estimate reviews, executive approvals, and project handoffs.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop estimators and preconstruction personnel.
- Track and improve key performance metrics including estimate accuracy, proposal win rates, backlog growth, and gross margin performance.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.
Experience
- 10+ years of estimating experience within infrastructure, industrial construction, utility, energy, EPC, or related markets.
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing estimating or preconstruction teams.
- Experience developing estimates for large, complex construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction project delivery methods, cost modeling, and commercial project risk.
Skills
- Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Advanced proficiency with estimating software, Bluebeam, Excel, and cost modeling tools.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, procurement, and executive leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- PE, PMP, CCM, or similar professional certification.
- Experience supporting industrial, infrastructure, utility, energy, or EPC projects.
- Familiarity with Primavera P6, Power BI, and enterprise estimating systems.
