The Law Office of Brian H. Turner is a small, trial-focused plaintiff personal injury firm in Sacramento, hiring a full-time Personal Injury Case Manager. We represent seriously injured people across Sacramento, Stockton, and the Central Valley in trucking accident, catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and serious personal injury matters.

This is a role for someone who wants to own client cases from sign-up through resolution - and who's looking for a firm where the attorneys actually stay engaged with clients throughout the process. At our firm, attorneys do not sign cases and disappear. They remain part of the case from start to finish, and you are part of a team that includes a litigation paralegal and a second case manager. You will not be expected to be everything to everyone.

About the Role

You will manage a caseload of 40-50 client files across both pre-litigation and active litigation. You will own the client relationship, drive case progression, coordinate medical treatment, prepare demand packages, and continue managing your cases once litigation begins. The attorneys handle case strategy and advocacy. Our litigation paralegal handles legal work product like discovery and motion drafting. You own the client experience and case progression - supported by a real team.

Responsibilities - Pre-Litigation

• Own the client relationship through the pre-litigation phase, with proactive communication and consistent updates
• Coordinate medical treatment, making sure clients are getting the care they need from the right providers
• Collect medical records, bills, employer records, and other documentation
• Identify and track potential liens for later negotiation
• Draft demand letters and demand packages (template-driven, with attorney review)
• Track case milestones and proactively move cases toward resolution or litigation
• Escalate cases to attorneys when ready for demand, negotiation, or filing

Responsibilities - Litigation

• Continue managing client cases once a lawsuit is filed
• Manage the litigation calendar and case deadlines
• Coordinate discovery responses (with our litigation paralegal handling drafting)
• Schedule depositions and manage deposition logistics
• Communicate proactively with clients about case milestones, what's coming next, and what we need from them
• Coordinate trial preparation in collaboration with attorneys and the litigation paralegal

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of plaintiff personal injury case management experience, OR
• 2+ years in a strong adjacent field with transferable skills (medical office management, chiropractic billing or front-office, insurance claims handling on either plaintiff or defense side, healthcare patient advocacy, or similar client-facing case-progression work)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume caseload without losing track of details
• Comfort making decisions and driving cases forward without being told what to do
• Genuine care for clients in difficult circumstances
• Honest and accountable when mistakes happen

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with litigation case management (managing cases through depositions and trial preparation)
• Familiarity with personal injury case management software (Filevine, Litify, Smokeball, Clio, or similar)
• Bilingual Spanish (a plus, not required)

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary: $60,000 - $85,000 per year DOE. The higher end of the range is reserved for candidates with confirmed experience running both pre-litigation and litigation case management.
• Health insurance: 100% of employee premium paid by the firm for the Anthem Gold PPO E plan; 50% of dependent premium covered
• Dental and vision insurance: 100% of employee premium paid by the firm for the Mutual of Omaha plan; 50% of dependent premium covered
• 401(k) plan: Firm matches 100% of the first 3% of your contributions plus 50% of the next 2%, for a maximum employer match equal to 4% of your eligible compensation
• Paid time off: Two weeks of PTO, plus a paid office closure between Christmas and New Year's Day (approximately 5 additional paid days). The firm shuts down during the holiday closure except for genuine emergencies - we believe people need real time off.

Our attorneys train year-round at small-group trial intensives with nationally recognized trial communication experts. More than 70% of our cases get filed - meaning we don't just settle on demand letters. We fight, and our case management has to be built for that reality.

What that means for the case manager role: you stay with cases through litigation, not just pre-litigation. That's more substantive work than the typical PI case manager role, and we pay for it.

At most personal injury firms, the case manager is the front line and the only line. The attorney signs the case and disappears until settlement. The case manager handles everything - including substantive legal questions they're not in a position to answer.

We don't operate that way. Our attorneys stay engaged with clients throughout the case. When a client has a legal question, the attorney is available. When a strategic decision needs to be made, the attorney makes it. Our litigation paralegal handles legal work product. You are not the client's only contact and not the client's only buffer.

The result: clients feel supported by a team, attorneys stay close to the work, and case managers don't burn out from carrying entire client relationships alone.
