Job Description:
Kona Mantas LLC is hiring a USCG Licensed Captain for nighttime manta ray snorkel tours operating out of Keauhou Harbor, Kona, Hawaii.
We specialize in small-group (max 6 guests), premium, semi-private ocean tours, delivering high-end guest experiences with a strong focus on safety, professionalism, and marine education.
This is a part-time captain position (Friday-Sunday evenings, 6 hours/night) with opportunities for additional daytime hours.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and navigate a commercial vessel safely during night operations
- Conduct pre-trip vessel inspections and ensure full safety compliance
- Deliver clear and professional safety briefings to guests
- Monitor ocean conditions (swell, wind, currents, visibility) and make operational decisions
- Coordinate with crew to ensure smooth tour execution and guest experience
- Assist with guest boarding/deboarding and hospitality
- Maintain vessel cleanliness, organization, and readiness
- Perform post-tour duties (wash down, equipment checks, reporting)
- Maintain and inspect all tour equipment (snorkel gear, lights, flotation devices, safety gear)
- Identify, report, and assist with equipment repair or replacement needs
- Ensure proper storage and transport of all equipment between truck and vessel
- Complete required logs and tour notes accurately
Requirements:
- Valid USCG Captain's License (OUPV / 6-Pack or higher)
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to pass a Drug Test
- Ability to pass a Background Check
- Strong knowledge of boating safety and ocean conditions in Hawaii
- Ability to lift and handle gear/equipment
- 3-month probationary period for captains new to Keauhou operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating out of Keauhou Harbor
- Previous manta ray snorkel tour experience
- Background in tourism, snorkeling, or marine operations
- Knowledge of local marine life and manta ray behavior
- Experience with small-group, high-end guest experiences
Skills & Traits:
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Experience navigating Keauhou Harbor preferred
- High attention to detail and safety awareness
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Organized and efficient in fast-paced environments
- Positive, team-oriented attitude
Schedule & Compensation:
- Friday - Sunday evenings ( 6 hours/night)
- Pay is per trip, starting at $75 per trip
- Opportunity for pay increase after successful 3-month probationary period
- Tips + potential performance-based incentives
- Opportunity for additional shifts / Day Captain role
