Job Description

ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking a full-time locum Cardiothoracic Surgeon for a 3 6-month assignment beginning February or March, with potential extension into 2026 and possible permanent hire. This hospital-based role covers inpatient surgical care, including OR, ICU, ER, and floor rounding. The position supports coverage due to a leave of absence and provider departure.

Dates & Schedule
  • Coverage Start: February/March 2026

  • Assignment Length: 3 6 months, with potential extension into 2026

  • Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM

  • Call: Nights and weekends (approximately 7 8 calls per month)

  • Call Rotation: 1:3

  • Average Cases: 2 cases per day

  • Setting: Hospital-based (OR, ICU, ER, inpatient floors)

  • Trauma Level: Level I

  • Annual ER Volume: 85,000 visits

  • Operating Rooms: 3

  • Credentialing Timeline: days

  • EMR: EPIC

Job Details & Responsibilities
  • Perform cardiothoracic surgical procedures for adult and geriatric patients

  • Provide inpatient care including OR cases, ICU management, and ER/floor rounding

  • Participate in call rotation (nights/weekends)

  • Utilize EPIC for documentation

  • Work alongside a full complement of ancillary staff

Required Procedures Include:

  • CABG (including Off-Pump and Redo Coronary Revascularization)

  • Arterial revascularization (Internal Mammary, Radial, Gastroepiploic arteries)

  • Descending and thoracic aortic aneurysm repair

  • Heart valve repair and replacement (including Mitral Valve Repair)

  • CoreValve System procedures

  • Tube thoracostomy

  • Pericardial window

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery (Required)

  • Active Connecticut Medical License (Required; CT only)

  • BLS and ACLS Certifications (Required)

  • Local Provider Requirement: Mileage reimbursement only; address required at submission

  • Self-Query NPDB: Completed within one month of presentation (Required)

  • Experience in high-acuity, Level I trauma hospital settings preferred
