A Brief Overview

The Vice President of Total Rewards serves as the strategic leader for compensation, benefits, and employee health & well-being across Avera Health. The Vice President partners with senior leadership to develop and lead system-wide compensation strategies, benefits offerings, and recognition programs that reflect Avera's commitment to compassionate care and service excellence. This leader ensures total rewards programs are aligned with strategic priorities, fiscally responsible, compliant with regulatory requirements, and clearly communicate the value of total rewards to caregivers across the ministry.

What you will do

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive total rewards strategy, including compensation, benefits, and employee health & wellness, aligned with Avera Health's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Design and implement competitive, equitable, and innovative pay and benefits programs that support caregiver well-being and organizational performance.
  • Partner with leadership to align total rewards strategies with workforce needs, financial goals, and the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care.
  • Leverage data and analytics to inform decision-making, measure program effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintain effective governance structures for total rewards programs.
  • Oversee benefits operations, ensuring effective, efficient, and high-quality service delivery across the organization.
  • Manage vendor partnerships and contracts to optimize value, quality, and service for benefits administration.
  • Collaborate across teams to integrate total rewards programs into the broader employee experience and strengthen engagement and retention.
  • Communicate the value of total rewards in a clear and meaningful way to caregivers, leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team while modeling Avera's values and advancing a culture of service excellence, stewardship, and collaboration.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The individual must be able to work the hours specified. Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7-9 years of progressive human resources experience.
  • Experience in supporting system executive leadership teams.

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • Master's or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) - Human Resource Standards Institute (HRCI)
  • SHRM-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) - Society For Human Resource Management (SHRM)
  • Health Care experience.
