Travel Psychiatrist (TBI)

Start: ASAP

End: Ongoing (through Dec 31, 2026)

Schedule: 1 to 5 shifts per month

Setting: VA disability examinations (clinic based)

Patient population: Adult Veterans

Work type: Evaluation only (no treatment and no prescribing)

Position overview

In this role, the provider conducts VA Compensation and Pension examinations focused on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and related psychiatric and behavioral residuals. Exams are non treatment and documentation is completed using VA Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) in contractor systems.

Key responsibilities

Perform structured psychiatric interviews and mental status examinations.

Assess cognitive, behavioral, and psychiatric effects of TBI.

Differentiate TBI sequelae from PTSD, substance use, and primary psychiatric conditions.

Review and synthesize collateral records (for example neurology, neuropsychology, imaging, and prior psychiatric treatment).

Complete the applicable VA DBQs (TBI and Mental Disorders as applicable) with clear documentation.

Required qualifications

MD or DO with completed Psychiatry residency.

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.

Active, unrestricted state medical license (license portability applies).

DEA (may be required for credentialing).

Ability to complete onboarding, background check, and required training modules.

Credentialing and onboarding items (must be provided)

Current CV in month and year format for education and work history, including explanations for gaps of 30 days or more.

Photo ID.

Board certification documentation if applicable.

Completion of required application and consent steps as directed during onboarding.
