Position OverviewThe Science Teacher at Accelerated Learning Center plays a critical role in helping students reconnect with learning and make meaningful academic progress toward graduation. This role is designed for an educator who can deliver engaging, standards-aligned science instruction while supporting a flexible, student-centered learning model.At ALC, teaching goes beyond content delivery. Our teachers partner closely with mentors to support the whole student academically, socially, and emotionally, especially during the critical first 90 days of enrollment.In addition to instructional responsibilities, the Science Teacher will also serve as mentors to a small group of students, helping guide their personal growth, accountability, and long-term success.Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & LearningDeliver engaging, standards-aligned science instruction (aligned to Arizona state standards)Support students in both direct instruction and blended/computer based learning environments (e.g., Edgenuity)Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students who are credit-deficient or behind grade levelMonitor student progress and provide timely feedback to ensure course completion and masteryFacilitate small group instruction, labs, and hands-on learning experiences when appropriateStudent Support & EngagementBuild strong relationships with students to increase engagement, persistence, and retentionCollaborate with mentors to support students during the first 90 days, where connection and consistency are criticalHelp students develop confidence, accountability, and ownership of their learningMaintain a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environmentMentorship & Student DevelopmentServe as a mentor for a small caseload of studentsMeet regularly with assigned students to build trust, set goals, and track progressGuide students through the student journal, facilitating reflection, personal growth, and life-skill developmentSupport students in developing a clear academic and graduation plan in partnership with the broader teamAct as a consistent, trusted adult who helps students navigate challenges both inside and outside the classroomCollaborate with other mentors and staff to ensure continuity of support, especially during onboarding and key transition pointsCollaboration & TeamworkPartner closely with mentors, registrars, and leadership to support each student's individualized learning plan and graduation pathwayParticipate in team meetings focused on student progress, interventions, and retention strategiesCommunicate regularly with staff regarding student performance, attendance, and engagementAssessment & AccountabilityTrack and document student progress, grades, and completion ratesUse data to inform instruction and interventionsEnsure compliance with all school, district, and state requirementsCulture & Mission AlignmentModel and reinforce ALC's commitment to relationships, accountability, and student successContribute to a culture that is hungry, humble, adaptable, and people-smartSupport school-wide initiatives that improve student outcomes and experienceQualificationsRequiredValid Arizona Teaching Certificate (Secondary Science or appropriate certification)Bachelor's degree in Science, Education, or related fieldAbility to work with at-risk and non-traditional student populationsStrong classroom management and relationship-building skillsPreferredExperience in alternative education, dropout recovery programs, or credit recovery modelsExperience with blended learning platforms (e.g., Edgenuity)Experience in mentoring, coaching, or advisory roles with studentsKey CompetenciesRelationship-Driven: Builds trust quickly and connects with students who may be disengaged from traditional schoolAdaptable: Thrives in a flexible, non-traditional learning environmentResults-Oriented: Focused on student progress, credit completion, and graduation outcomesMentor-Minded: Invested in students' personal growth, not just academic successCollaborative: Works well within a team-based, mentor-supported modelGrowth-Minded: Open to feedback and committed to continuous improvementCompensation details: 0 Yearly SalaryPI72b7eb0-
