This Staff Psychiatrist role involves delivering comprehensive psychiatric care for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness through assessments, medication management, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary oversight. Reporting to the Medical Director or Chief Medical Officer, the psychiatrist supports both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health settings while ensuring high clinical standards, regulatory compliance, and person-centered treatment. The position combines direct psychiatric care with leadership responsibilities, including supervision, hospitalization decisions, and collaboration in educational and community initiatives.
Dates/Schedule:
- Full-time Staff Psychiatrist position
- May work in 24-hour acute inpatient or outpatient psychiatric settings based on organizational needs
- Must be available for additional days or hours as required
- Weekly medication clinics and ongoing supervision of assigned clients
Job Details & Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including mental status exams, psychiatric history, substance use, physical health, medication history, and diagnostic assessments
- Provide psychiatric consultations, approve service and treatment plans, and determine medical necessity for hospitalization
- Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, including emergency oral and parenteral administration when clinically necessary
- Oversee medication clinics and daily medication supervision for assigned patients
- Approve discharge plans and ensure continuity of care
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision for multidisciplinary treatment teams and case review conferences
- Support training, education, and workshop development in psychodiagnostics, psychotherapy, and behavior management
- Maintain confidentiality, regulatory compliance, and culturally responsive care practices
- Participate in organizational initiatives, fundraising, and special projects as assigned
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Valid California Physician and Surgeon license
- Completion of accredited graduate psychiatric education meeting American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology standards
- Valid Controlled Substance Registration Certificate
- Preferred experience in psychiatric healthcare settings
- Strong organizational, multitasking, problem-solving, and deadline-management abilities
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage confidential information and collaborate across all organizational levels
- Demonstrated expertise in psychiatric assessment, medication management, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary collaboration
