Job Description

ATC West Healthcare Services is hiring a full-time General Surgeon (MD/DO) to join a collaborative surgical team. The physician will provide inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and wound care services within a community hospital environment. The role includes performing a variety of general surgical procedures and participating in a shared on-call rotation.

Dates / Schedule
  • Credentialing Timeframe: days

  • Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM

  • Call Ratio: 1:4

  • Average Surgical Cases per Day: 1 3

  • Practice Setting: Hospital-based office/clinic

  • Trauma Level: Level III

  • Annual ER Volume: Not specified

  • Operating Rooms: 3 ORs + 1 procedure room

  • EMR System: Cerner

  • Team Structure: 2 current general surgeons + 1 new hire

OR Staff Support

  • CRNAs

  • Scrub technicians

  • Circulating nurses

Job Details / Responsibilities
  • Perform a range of general surgical procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Manage pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care for surgical patients.

  • Provide emergency surgical care and participate in the shared call rotation (1:4).

  • Conduct procedures including:

    • General surgical cases

    • Chest wall and pleural procedures

    • Chest tube insertion

    • Abdominal vascular surgery

    • Laparoscopic surgery (e.g., cholecystectomy, hernioplasty)

    • GI endoscopy (upper, lower, colonoscopy)

  • For surgeons with pediatric training, perform additional procedures such as:

    • Umbilical defect repairs (omphalocele, hernia)

    • Imperforate anus procedures

  • Collaborate with the surgical team, OR staff, and hospital departments to ensure high-quality patient care.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education & Training

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency program

Certifications & Licensure

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery

  • Active Vermont medical license

  • DEA certification (must be obtained before start)

  • BLS / CPR for Healthcare Providers

Experience & Competencies

  • Proficiency in general surgical techniques and procedures

  • Ability to perform laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures

  • Experience managing adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients

Additional Requirements

  • Clean malpractice history

  • Most recent NPDB Self-Query report (within 30 days)

  • Local candidates preferred
