DescriptionSummary:
Assists all therapy staff with direct patient care; maintains equipment, linen, and supplies. Assists with group programs and transports patients to and from therapy areas as required.
Responsibilities:
Care of the Patient:
- Demonstrates skilled expertise when monitoring patients during treatment, reports adverse reactions to the supervising therapist and/or nursing.
- Knowledgeable of available wound care supplies, able to independently take inventory, stock carts, and assist PT with wound care.
- Demonstrates ability to complete a treatment activity as directed by the supervising therapist. The therapist displays great confidence in skills and abilities.
- Effectively leads aquatic classes.
- Demonstrates sufficient knowledge of equipment function, setup, and tear down. Able to instruct others.
- Effectively follows therapist instructions regarding means of transporting with concern for patient comfort and safety.
Communication with Patients, Families, and Co-Workers:
- Provides information on what to expect and works to build rapport.
- Demonstrates respect for the privacy and modesty of patients.
- Encourages all patients in a courteous manner.
- Exhibits appropriate and professional communication with all patients to support a quality image.
Collaboration:
- Demonstrates exceptional cooperation with others during the workday.
- Able to transition from on discipline to another with ease. Notifies therapist when re-assigned.
- Assists with clerical tasks as requested. Able to assist with front office duties with a positive attitude and professional manner.
- Verbally notifies ward clerk/nursing of patient's departure and arrival when transporting.
- Demonstrates ability to work in multiple departments; able to communicate with supervisors when this need arises; able to transition from one setting to another easily; seeks out opportunities for new learning in different settings.
Time Management:
- Manages time effectively to appropriately prioritize and complete assigned patient care duties daily.
- Therapist is notified when duties are completed and/or changes occur.
- Demonstrates respect and flexibility for therapist time schedules and needed changes throughout the day.
- Takes the initiative to set up equipment prior to patient arrival.
Involvement in Wound Team:
- Demonstrates knowledge and constant learning of infection control policies with whirlpool and pulse lavage.
- Is knowledgeable of all wound care products and able to stock carts and cabinets quickly.
- Knowledgeable of the digital camera and printer. Able to use with occasional assistance.
- Takes personal responsibility for daily instrument counts, cleaning, and retrieval.
Department Business:
- Attends at least 85% of department meetings.
- Monitors inventory of supplies, notifies the appropriate person for ordering, and takes the initiative to acquire needed supplies.
- Actively participates in problem-solving issues that arise daily and demonstrates good judgment. Look for timely resolution, remaining calm and effective.
- Promptly removes any faulty equipment from service, forwards equipment to bio-med, and notifies supervisor.
- Takes responsibility for ensuring that base/annual competencies are completed prior to the scheduled review date.
- Consistently completes cleaning/department duties at the end of each day.
- Independently records temperature log and checks pH and chlorine according to department policy.
Professional Growth:
- Completes orientation of new employees as requested by the manager.
- Completes self-assessment and identifies educational needs. Consults with supervisor regarding opportunities to fulfill identified needs.
- Applies knowledge of growth and development from infancy to mature adult and is able to modify interventions for care based on each stage.
Follows Hospital Procedures:
- Accrues no more than 3 unscheduled absences. Reports to the work station at the designated time.
- Follows established call-in procedures.
- Consistently follows hospital and/or departmental procedures for dress, hygiene, and ID badges.
- Follows safety precautions and demonstrates proper body mechanics.
- Have no avoidable accidents or injuries during the 12-month review period.
- Attends and/or completes all mandated infection control and safety programs on or before the scheduled performance review.
- Adheres to hospital policies and departmental rules consistently
- Completes all educational assignments.
- Follows the CHRISTUS Health guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
Requirements:
Education/Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
- Previous healthcare experience preferred
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- American Heart Association BLS - within two (2) weeks of employment
