Role Summary: The L3 Infrastructure Engineer will serve as a senior technical authority responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining enterprise-scale Windows Server and VMware environments. This role involves deep problem diagnosis, performance optimization, and automation to ensure high availability, security, and efficiency across infrastructure services. The engineer will collaborate with architecture, network, and storage teams to drive continuous improvement and modernization initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Advanced Infrastructure Administration: Lead the configuration, optimization, and lifecycle management of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) environments, including AD, DNS, DHCP, and core infrastructure services. Virtualization Management: Design, implement, and troubleshoot VMware vSphere/ESXi clusters, including HA/DRS configuration, vMotion, resource pools, templates, and performance tuning. Incident & Problem Management: Act as final escalation point for critical infrastructure issues; perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes and preventive measures. Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain PowerShell or Python-based automation scripts for server provisioning, patching, monitoring, and compliance reporting. Performance & Capacity Optimization: Conduct capacity planning, performance benchmarking, and trend analysis to ensure optimal resource utilization and scalability. Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain security baselines, hardening standards, and patch compliance in accordance with organization policies and industry best practices. Infrastructure Modernization: Contribute to the migration and modernization of workloads, including hybrid cloud integration, VMware upgrades, and backup/recovery strategy enhancements. Collaboration & Documentation: Partner with storage, network, and application teams for complex troubleshooting; review and enhance SOPs, technical runbooks, and knowledge articles. Mentorship & Governance: Provide technical guidance to L1/L2 teams, review their work, and drive continuous service improvement initiatives. Required Technical Skills: Expert-level knowledge of Windows Server administration, Active Directory, Group Policy, and DNS/DHCP/IIS. Deep understanding of VMware vSphere, vCenter, HA/DRS clusters, and virtual networking/storage. Strong scripting and automation experience using PowerShell or Python. Proven experience in RCA, performance tuning, and capacity planning. Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, SCCM, or similar). Working knowledge of backup/restore technologies (Veeam, Commvault, Networker) and endpoint protection solutions. Exposure to cloud/hybrid integration (Azure/VMware Cloud) is an advantage. Experience & Certification Requirements: Experience: 13-15 years in infrastructure support/engineering, with at least 3-4 years in an L3 or equivalent senior technical role. Certifications (preferred): Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) ITIL v4 Foundation Azure Administrator Associate (optional) Behavioral Competencies: Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset. Ability to lead technical bridges and manage high-severity incidents. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Proactive and drives automation and efficiency.
