Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Full-time Catering Chef to serve the community of a beautiful co-educational college-preparatory school in Gill, MA.
What you will do:
- Participate in preparing, cooking, and portioning large quantities of meals and other items for catering events
- Supervise and/or coordinate activities of cooks and other staff engaged in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, or presentation of food
- Design recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure quality
- Order or requisition food or other supplies needed to ensure efficient operation
- Monitor and record kitchen inventory; order food supplies and receive and check products for freshness and quality
- Determine how food should be presented and create decorative food displays
- Ensure correct use of equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and schedule equipment maintenance
- Inspect supplies, equipment, or work areas to ensure conformance to established standards
- Demonstrate new cooking techniques or equipment to staff
- Check the quality of raw or cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.
- Record operational or production data
- Prepare and cook foods of all types, either on a regular basis or for special guests or functions
- Keep food production areas, kitchen equipment, and storage areas clean, organized, and sanitized; participate in and assist with coordinating the cleaning of cooking areas and equipment.
- Attend production meetings daily; offer input regarding leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.
- Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
- Regular & Predictable Attendance
What you need:
- Culinary Training or a minimum of 4 years of culinary and catering experience preferred
- Experience with high-volume catering and food service operations, preferably in school environments required
- Experience with purchasing/ordering preferred
- High levels of professionalism and strong leadership skills
- Excellent communication and good organizational skills
- Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
- Growing knowledge of sustainable practices
- ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification preferred
