JOB LOCATION Duke GI-Endoscopy of Raleigh - 3300 Executive Dr. JOB SUMMARY Surgical Technologists (ST) are allied health professionals who assist in the preparation and care of surgical patients ranging from infancy to geriatrics under the general direction of a professional nurse. The ST possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a surgeon's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Establishes and maintains a sterile field, ensuring all team members follow proper sterile technique. Demonstrates understanding and consistent practice of sterile procedures. Understands and applies principles of infection control. Maintains basic knowledge of endoscopy instrumentation. Prepares and breaks down procedure rooms with appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies. Performs safe instrument passing and handles specimen collection appropriately. Demonstrates competency in high-level disinfection and scope reprocessing. Maintains technical skills to support adult patient care. Rotates shifts as needed under the direction of a registered nurse. JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Level I- Entry level position for new graduates of Surgical Technology program or Surgical Technologists with 0 to 18 months experience. Certification preferred. Level II- Requires 6 to 12 months of full-time equivalent Surgical Technology or relevant military experience. Certification preferred.
