Job Title: Histology Technician / Histotechnologist / Histotech / Histologist General Summary: The Histotechnologist position reports to the Section Technical Lead and Department Manager. The role involves preparing tissues for microscopic examination by a Pathologist following established protocols, which includes freezing and cutting tissue sections, staining or treating tissue with reagents, and maintaining solutions and reagents. The Histotechnologist must demonstrate attention to detail, knowledge of staining procedures, and the ability to recognize and address technical difficulties. Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Universal Blood and Body Fluid Precautions. Prepare tissue specimens for pathologists according to laboratory procedures. Receive and release tissue specimens, log information, and assist with gross examinations and autopsy specimens. Prepare laboratory solutions and reagents, maintain records, and instruct others in histology techniques. Support continuous quality improvement efforts and maintain positive relationships with colleagues. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Associate degree in a science-related field (Bachelor's degree preferred) with certification required within one year of employment. No experience required but certification by the Board of Certification of American Society for Clinical Pathology within one year of employment. Approximately one to three months of on-the-job experience necessary. Interpersonal and analytical skills required. Schedule: Regularly scheduled shifts with set Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts.
