Job Summary

Columbus State University is inviting applications for the position of Director of Student Account Services in the Office of the Bursar. This position will provide professional leadership, strategic direction, and supervision of the Bursar's office. The Director of Student Account Services will report directly to the Vice President of Business and Finance.


Responsibilities

Significant responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the accurate billing and timely collection of tuition and fees inclusive of third party sponsors including outside billings for the university
  • Create and maintain the systematic and business processes responsible for the accurate assessment of tuition & fees
  • Oversee the financial compliance with Federal, State, Board of Regents, University and private sponsors
  • Oversee the collection and accurate recording of University revenues in regards with tuition and fees, third party sponsors, financial aid and miscellaneous institutional deposits
  • Create, validate and maintain accounting records used in and for billing and collection
  • Responsible for the integrity of contributing system interfaces between the student system and the general ledger
  • Develop training and effective communication to campus community and constituents on business processes and changes that affect them
  • Maintain departmental budget
  • Assist the VPBF with special projects and duties as directed
  • Ensure tuition and fees are assessed accurately and reflected appropriately on the student account in Banner
  • Ensure all billing for students, student sponsors and outside parties is accurate and occurs timely.
  • Manage the Last Chance Installment plan and prepare documentation needed for USG approval and billing for the Cougar Commitment plan.
  • Serve as the direct supervisor for the Assoc. Bursar and indirectly supervises 7 other staff
  • Set the expectation for providing exceptional customer service to all students, faculty, staff and others that contact the office for assistance
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or business-related field and a minimum of five years of relevant experience in higher education or a heavily regulated environment with three or more years of supervisory experience; and/or an equivalent combination of experience and education . A minimum of seven years of an equivalent combination of experience and education will also be considered. The successful candidate must have a good understanding of the Department of Education guidelines for federal funds; have a high level working knowledge of Student Financial Aid; be knowledgeable of internal controls over accounts receivable and cash collections; have excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills; be able to analyze and interpret financial reports; and be able to establish and maintain/cultivate positive and productive working relationships within the office and with all other members of the University community.


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Three years of Financial Aid/Bursars office experience
  • Experience in higher education or educational setting
  • Experience with BANNER software

Proposed Salary

The annualized salary range for this position is $67,023 - $75,000 and includes full benefits.
