SUMMARY This position is responsible for operating boilers to generate the steam needed for supplying heat or power for buildings and industrial processes. FUNCTIONS • Knows, observes, and enforces all standard operating procedures, safety procedures and rules, environmental practices, and GMP guidelines. • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of five boilers, all boiler auxiliary equipment, and multi-hearth furnaces. • Responsible for troubleshooting all problems that occur on boilers, peripheral equipment, and requesting mechanical or electrical assistance when needed. • Responsible for cleaning, inspecting, and lubricating all machinery within their scope of authority. • Responsible for the successful startup and/or shutdown of major boilers and process equipment. • Required to rotate between inside (control room responsibilities) and outside responsibilities. • Monitors water chemistry conditions, collects water samples, conducts water tests, and makes necessary adjustments to chemical metering pumps. • Maintains log of meter readings, daily operational data, air emission data, and water chemistry test results. • Responsible for monitoring temperatures, pressure, and flow of boiler house processes. • Responsible for the safe operation of manual valves, control valves, turbine-driven pumps, centrifugal pumps, and start/stop stations. • Coordinates activities with other areas and departments. • Responsible for loading fly ash trucks. • Opens valves and adjusts regulators to control flow of steam or water through pipeline, or to blow sludge and scale from pressure system. • Removes slag from furnace tubes and brickwork of a coal fired boiler. • Performs routine valve maintenance of tightening packing, and greasing valve stems.
