Description:

We are currently recruiting for a Research Associate I for the Nakamura Lab. The research associate will be assisting with studies investigating mitochondrial dysfunction in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disease, and characterizing genetic pathways that regulate energy levels. This position is intensive in benchwork, and careful technique and record keeping are critical skills. Common techniques used in the laboratory include: preparation of rodent and human neuronal cultures, maintenance of mammalian cell lines, cloning, flow cytometry, CRISPR-based screens, assays of cellular metabolism, fluorescence microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and work with mouse models of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.

This position will be research based with opportunity for publication. The skills and experiences acquired from this position could provide a useful background for future pursuits in medical and/or bioscience graduate school.

Required qualifications are a high level of motivation, strong problem solving skills, excellent organization and attention to detail, the ability to work well in a team environment and a track record of academic excellence. Preferred qualifications include an undergraduate background in biological sciences, and experience with tissue culture, flow cytometry, lentiviral vectors and/or molecular biology.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
