The Paul H. O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs (O'Neill School) at Indiana University is a professional school with 140 full-time faculty serving more than 4,000 students on two campuses in Bloomington and Indianapolis. Founded in 1972, the school was the first in the nation to combine public policy, management, and administration with environmental science. The O'Neill School provides international scope, influential research and focused opportunities for students to pair a comprehensive foundation of knowledge with hands-on experience in the field. Its more than 34,000 alumni work in the public, private and nonprofit sectors around the world.
Job Summary
The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) advises the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs (O'Neill) senior leadership team, and provides guidance in strategic DEI efforts that advance the mission, vision, and strategic plans of the O'Neill School. The Director of DEI will foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the school for students, faculty and staff. The O'Neill School has operations in two locations, Bloomington (Indiana University Bloomington) and Indianapolis (IUPUI). The Director of DEI reports to the Dean.
The position will collaborate with key O'Neill and Campus/University constituencies to develop, deploy, and maintain initiatives that contribute to the achievement of DEI related goals, including, but not limited to, the recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented students, staff, and faculty; the development of comprehensive student programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and the engagement of the entire O'Neill community (including students, staff, faculty and alumni)) around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The focus of this role is on strategically applying best practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion to facilitate changes in culture and practice across all functional areas of the O'Neill school.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and five years of applicable or related experience.
Strong background in leadership development of DEI initiatives. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff and faculty to develop and implement innovative approaches to DEI. Effective interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation. Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Experience facilitating varying constituencies and task oriented work groups/teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree. Strong background in higher education with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty leadership.
