Position Description
Operates a group of center pivot irrigation systems, servicing growing crops on a large vegetable farm including grain crops such as corn and soybeans. Flexible, working in a seasonal business and taking on annual short-term roles to maintain a full-time work schedule performing as an operator, mechanic or storage line supervisor as an example. In this role, you will receive formal training through our partnership with Mid-State on the following: basic electrical, maintenance/mechanical, and team communication development.
Qualifications
• General knowledge of electricity
• Basic mechanical skills to change tires, u-joints, gear boxes or wheel boxes
• A general understanding of modern irrigation equipment is helpful
• Background in Agriculture is beneficial
• Ability to use a laptop or IPad computer to remotely operate irrigation equipment
• Motivated to work independently while monitoring the irrigation needs of assigned crops
• Requires a driver's license and an acceptable driving record
• Agronomy experience is a plus
• Irrigation experience beneficial
Job Responsibilities
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures
• Operate center pivot, linear, corner irrigation systems, and well pump systems
• Assist with repairing and troubleshooting irrigation systems
• Basic trouble shooting such as checking fuses
• Ensure proper watering is maintained from instructions provided by our Agronomy unit
• Serve in secondary positions such as tractor operator, piler operator or storage line supervisor
• Participate in training and company meetings
• Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment
• Complete service reports and documents required for the position
• Ensure quality, health and safety standards are upheld
Skills / Competencies
• Ability to work year round, extended hours and outdoors
• Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully
• Ability to use service related technology and basic computer functions
• Record keeping skills to meet company requirements
• Plant to Harvest experience is a plus
• Ability to safely lift 50 lbs.
Physical Demands
This position requires typical physical demands for farm labor, such as walking, standing, reaching, stooping, squatting, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs routinely and working indoors and outdoors in cold, hot or wet conditions on uneven surfaces.
