Experience and Education
- BS Degree in Science with major coursework in one of the major physical or biological sciences - At least one year laboratory experience in a molecular related field required.
Certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist or Licensed MT (ASCP), MB (ASCP) preferred.
Job Duties
Cultivates, isolates, and identifies bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other microorganisms; determines antibiotic sensitivity patterns.
Performs chemical and physical analysis of blood, urine, and other body fluids for use in diagnostic and evaluation of kidney, liver, and other organic functions.
Performs hematological examinations and procedures, such as blood cell and platelet counts and coagulation tests, and/or immunological procedures, such as tests for blood group determinations, hepatitis, syphilis, etc.
Assists in evaluation and implementation of new or revised laboratory procedures and techniques.
Performs all required quality control procedures to ensure validity of test results.
Maintains laboratory equipment and instrumentation; performs troubleshooting procedures as needed.
Instructs medical students, graduate students, and/or laboratory personnel of lower grade in established clinical laboratory techniques as required.
May provide working supervision to small number of laboratory personnel of lower grade.
Performs other duties as assigned.
