We are a growing FinTech company in the loan industry looking for a VP, Software Engineering to lead our dynamic development team!
This is a REMOTE role, you can live anywhere, the entire team is now REMOTE.
Our SaaS products have revolutionized the loan industry and your leadership of our team will help us continue to do so! We are a Ruby (Rails) shop working on migrating to new technologies in an Agile environment. Your team is comprised of about 25 engineers onshore with some offshore resources. We are looking at you as a leader first, technologist second. You must be a change manager with lean expertise!
What You Will Be Doing
- Leading a team of Ruby Engineers, designing solutions to complex problems, and digging into an existing codebase to derive understanding and intent of various application features. The VP, Software Engineering is also expected to be an advocate of Ruby best practices, continuously expanding and sharing knowledge.
- Responsible for growing and developing a team of talented engineers, setting the bar high with performance and ensuring that team members hold themselves and each other accountable to high impact results
- Be hands-on in recruitment of new team members, building a collaborative Engineering culture that draws and retains top talent to the organization; attend meet-ups, events, and conferences that drive recruitment and bring new ideas and technical solutions to the team
- Represent your team to senior leadership and other groups & stakeholders, advocating for mutually beneficial solutions to competing needs within Tech, Product, and Business groups
- Support the Agile/Scrum process, encouraging empowerment of small-and-mighty teams; ensure that each team member is fully engaged in their projects
- Manage Engineering staff on an individual basis, holding 1-on-1's, driving individual development, and removing roadblocks to help ensure that teams have what they need to achieve goals & objectives
- Anticipate strategic and scaling-related challenges through thoughtful long-term planning
- Monitor progress by third-party vendors, if needed
What You Need for this Position
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, and/or years of industry expertise
- 10+ years of experience in technical roles with progressive experience
- 6+ years of experience managing a technical development team - leadership is key!
- You must be a great people manager, with the ability to organize and create cohesive teams that work well together. In addition to being a great leader you must also be able to be honest and point out when things are not good, create solutions and pivot to resolution.
- You must be a process manager who subscribes to Agile and lean adoption, seeks repeatability and consistency and tracks your teams performance.
- You must be a technology Manager/Engineer. Someone who understands modern technology, web development, API development, Front end (React, Angular) and back end and distributed development. Familiar with Ruby/Rails, JavaScript/Node, Java/Scala/Spring Boot, Python/Flask/Django, Docker/Kubernetes is a huge plus to be able to work closely with the development team.
