Perform semi-skilled work functions to operate motorized light- to heavy-weight equipment to maintain and repair town grounds and streets, and to provide solid waste collection services.
A trainee position will be considered if the applicant does not have the required licensure and experience.

Job Duties
- Drives or operates trucks, tractors, and other equipment; drives garbage truck on assigned route; picks up yard waste, garbage and bulk items and puts in truck; mows grass; picks up leaves; cleans out drainage ditches; assists in repairing and patching streets; and assists with making asphalt repairs.
- Assists in maintaining town parks and trails; performs routine maintenance for park facilities such as picnic shelters, restrooms, playgrounds, and fields; removes trash; performs grounds keeping duties such as blowing off walkways, pruning trees, etc.; communicates with park visitors.
- Operates one or more of the following: dump truck, weed eater, grapple loader, backhoe, pick-up truck, leaf vacuum truck, chainsaws, mowers, solid waste collection vehicles, automated side arm and rear loader garbage trucks, or other equipment as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Experience:
- Requires a High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of related experience and/or training involving equipment operation; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- A trainee position will be considered if the applicant does not have the required licensure and experience. A Class B Commercial Driver's License must be obtained within 6 months. Trainee salary will be $31,209.
Licensure, Certification, and Specialized Training:
Requires Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for equipment operator I.
Class B CDL must be obtained within 6 months if hired as a trainee.
Within 1 year of hire, must obtain:
- Class A CDL
- Aerial Lift Truck certification
- National Incident Management System Certification levels 100 and 700
- NC LTAP Roads Scholar and Advanced Road Scholar preferred
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a truck, tractor, and numerous small tools and equipment.
