Position Type: Career and Technology Date Posted: 2/1/2023 Location: Thunderbolt Career and Technology Center COLLETON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION - HVAC INSTRUCTOR JOB PURPOSE The purpose of the CTE Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Instructor is to provide students with instruction and training in the understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and become familiar with the tools and equipment associated with HVAC as well as to prepare students for entry-level employment in the HVAC industry. Course covers theory of refrigeration evacuation and charging methods; tools, materials, and equipment; components; electric circuits and controls; installation of HVAC systems; electrical motors; schematic wiring diagrams and HVAC blueprints; heating, ventilation, and heat pumps; and diagnosis of HVAC problems using meters. May require job development and placement of students in the local business communities for worksite training. This position is designated as a certificated teaching position and is under the supervision of a program principal. The position may supervise related support staff as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS To utilize a variety of effective and professional teaching techniques and methods which will assist students in attaining the performance objectives of the course Assist in preparing students for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification. Develop and maintain an appropriate training site for student instruction, including a statement of the student performance objectives to be achieved while at the training site Provide immediate supervision to all students while they are at the training site Submit a report of the total number of hours of training the student received and the related skills achieved at completion or termination of a student's training, and make recommendations for certificates of completion. Accurately and punctually submit all forms and information needed for attendance, accounting, and grade reporting Attend staff meetings and other such meetings Provide effective and cooperative liaison activities between CTE, school district, businesses, industry, union, apprenticeship programs and the general community, and perform other duties as assigned Performs job assignments safely for the purpose of protecting people and property Maintains an orderly, safe, and well-disciplined learning environment as to ensure an environment conducive to learning Keep abreast of current practices and training methods in the area of heating ventilation and air conditioning Teach and demonstrate competency in South Carolina HVAC Code Regulations. Provide instruction that is relevant to current and future work specifications and job opportunities within the occupational area. Align instruction to facilitate articulation to post-secondary institutions Performs job assignment safely for the purpose of protecting people and property Performs other related duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Three (3) years of work experience in the technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught are required, and one (1) of the three (3) years of the required experience must be within the last five (5) years, or two (2) years within the last ten (10) years. Up to two (2) years of the required experience may be substituted (with additional approval) of related post high school education, apprenticeship program, or college preparation course work. Knowledge of South Carolina HVAC Code standards required.
