Business Intelligence Manager
Butcher Power Products Rancho Cordova, California
Job Description Job Description Butcher Power Products (BPP) designs and manufactures mission critical and industrial power solutions for essential infrastructure nationwide. Headquartered in Sacramento, CA, our teams collaborate closely across engineering, manufacturing, and operations to build reliable, high quality systems and take pride in delivering work that truly matters. The Role: As the Business Intelligence Manager, you run BPP's reporting environment day to day. Reporting to the Director of Data & Analytics, you build and maintain the Power BI reporting the business depends on, operate the Microsoft Fabric and Lakehouse environment, and directly manage the Data Analyst and Data Intern who support them. The Director sets platform architecture, governance standards, and KPI definitions-you execute against them, turning requests from Finance, Operations, Manufacturing, Inventory, Sales, and Projects into delivered, accurate, refreshed reporting while keeping the environment stable, performant, and documented. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Delivery Management: • Day-to-Day Team Management: Direct the daily work of the D.A.T.A. Department's Data Analyst and Data Intern-assigning and reviewing work, unblocking technical issues, and developing skills through mentorship and peer review.• Delivery Planning: Translate department priorities set by the Director into scheduled work, communicate realistic delivery timelines to requesters, and report progress, blockers, and risk upward.• Standards Enforcement: Apply and enforce the department's data governance, documentation, naming, and development standards across all reporting work produced by the team. Reporting & Business Intelligence Delivery: • Report Development: Build, publish, and maintain the Power BI reports and dashboards that populate BPP's tiered reporting structure-executive summary, departmental detail, and transaction-level drill-through-spanning Finance, Operations, Inventory, Manufacturing, Sales, and Projects.• Report Catalog Ownership: Own the day-to-day lifecycle of the report catalog: intake, development, validation, release, version control, and retirement of obsolete content.• Request Intake & Prioritization: Run the reporting request queue-triaging incoming asks, scoping requirements with the business, setting delivery expectations, and escalating scope or resourcing conflicts to the Director.• Semantic Model Maintenance: Extend and maintain BPP's core Power BI semantic model within the shared dimensions, certified measures, and business definitions established by the Director-adding measures and tables as new reporting needs arise without fragmenting the model.• KPI Consistency: Ensure defined KPIs are calculated identically across every report, so the same metric returns the same number regardless of where it is viewed.• Self-Service Enablement: Publish certified datasets, report templates, and user documentation, and deliver hands-on training that lets business users answer their own questions without creating shadow reporting. Fabric, Power BI & Lakehouse Operations: • Workspace Administration: Administer Microsoft Fabric and Power BI workspaces day to day-workspace structure, deployment pipelines, workspace roles, app distribution, and promotion from development to production. • Lakehouse & Pipeline Operations: Operate and maintain the Lakehouse environment and the pipelines feeding it-monitoring ingestion from Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, Sales Hub, and SQL sources, and resolving load failures before they reach the business.• Refresh & Performance Monitoring: Monitor refresh schedules, capacity utilization, and query performance-troubleshooting failures, optimizing slow models and reports, and reporting environment health to the Director.• Access & Security Administration: Administer report access, row-level security, and workspace permissions in accordance with the data governance and sensitivity standards defined for the department.• Capacity & Cost Monitoring: Track Fabric capacity consumption and licensing usage, flagging cost, throttling, and scaling risks with recommended remediation.• First-Line Support: Serve as first-line resolution for reporting and data issues routed through the enterprise intake and escalation model-driving them to closure and escalating platform- or ERP-level problems to the Director with clear root-cause detail. Cross-Functional Collaboration: • Requirements Gathering: Work directly with Finance, Operations, Inventory, Manufacturing, Sales, and Projects to turn operational questions into report requirements, validating that delivered output answers the question that was actually asked.• Data Validation: Partner with functional owners and departmental super-users to reconcile report output against source system records and confirm accuracy before release to the business.• ERP Change Coordination: Coordinate with the Director and implementation partners on how Dynamics 365 configuration and process changes affect downstream reporting, adjusting models and reports ahead of each release. Qualifications: Required: Experience: 5+ years in business intelligence, analytics, or data engineering, including 2+ years leading a small team or owning a production reporting environment; this role will manage a Data Analyst and Data Intern. Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Economics, Business Intelligence, or a related field. Team Leadership: Demonstrated ability to direct the daily work of a Data Analyst and Data Intern, review technical output, and develop staff, while partnering effectively with non-technical stakeholders across the business. Technical Mastery: - Advanced Power BI-DAX, Power Query, semantic modeling, deployment pipelines, and workspace administration.- Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience-Lakehouse, data pipelines, notebooks, and capacity monitoring.- Strong SQL and dimensional (star schema) data modeling; working proficiency in Python (PySpark).- Working knowledge of Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and Dataverse data structures. Desired: Domain Knowledge (Preferred): Experience with manufacturing data including Bills of Materials (BOMs), production orders, inventory tracking, and industrial supply chain logic. Traits That Fit BPP: • Operational Discipline: You treat a failed refresh or a wrong number as an urgent problem, and you build the checks that keep it from happening twice.• Service Mindset: You are responsive to the business, set clear expectations, and follow through on what you commit to.• Meticulous Ownership: You hold a high bar for data integrity, documentation, and delivery quality, and expect the same from your team.• Bias for Action: You move with urgency and decisiveness while never sacrificing quality or accuracy. Core Competencies: Technical Leadership: Coaches and guides the Data Analyst and Data Intern while maintaining high standards for BI delivery, documentation, and governance. Data Integrity & Quality: Applies rigor to validation, reconciliation, refresh monitoring, and KPI consistency. Business Partnership: Translates operational needs into clear reporting requirements and communicates progress, tradeoffs, and risks. Execution & Prioritization: Manages intake, delivery timelines, blockers, and competing business requests with urgency and clarity.
