Position Summary
Green Bank Observatory oversees the development and operation of the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT), the world's largest fully steerable telescope, as well as numerous other smaller telescopes which are used for a variety of scientific and educational purposes. Working at wavelengths ranging from 100cm through 3mm, the GBT supports a diverse range of scientific research. Additionally, the GBT has an ongoing program of research and development projects which keeps the telescope at the cutting edge of science and technology.
At the GBO in Green Bank, West Virginia, we have an employment opportunity for a Fulltime Seasonal " May-August" Housekeeper/Foodhandler. This position is located on-site in Green Bank, WV.
What You Will be Doing:
Under general supervision, cleans rooms, apartments, and hallways in Residence Hall; prepares and serves food; and cleans cafeteria.
Job Duties Summary
Work Environment
Work is performed in both kitchen and hotel/resident hall environments. The employee is required to work a rotating schedule, which includes weekdays, weekday evenings, and weekend days.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to walk, climb stairs, talk, hear, taste, and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The employee will work with power tools, such as a vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, and meat slicer. The employee will be exposed to dust; chemicals and solvents, such as those used in cleaning; fumes; and pesticides. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
