Job Description:

Incumbents in this role provide the highest level of expertise in their respective area of focus. They are responsible for understanding and developing new test methodologies and analyzing current practices to ensure the best clinical practice to the patient populations served, while maintaining appropriate cost controls. This position has four main focuses: 1. Data analysis and interpretation, relative to the hospital clinical practice, 2. Study design and data interpretation relative to the research done in the department, 3. Acting as a consultant to discipline-specific personnel, Intermountain physicians, the Utah Department of Health, and other Intermountain committees, and 4. Initiation of approved independent research projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Consults with department leadership in review of current processes and practices to analyze their effectiveness and efficiency in providing quality patient care.
  • Develops and designs relevant studies (protocol writing, grant writing, data analysis, and interpretation) to improve clinical care within department.
  • Delivers clinical and scientific presentations to clinicians, staff, and other applicable personnel to build awareness of issues related to the clinic's focus and to educate on recommendations for changes or updates in processes or procedures.
  • Acts as a mentor to junior staff members and students.
  • Presents information in a comprehensive and understandable manner at relevant local and global conferences and represents Intermountain Healthcare by upholding its Mission, Vision, and Values.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in associated field of focus followed by postdoctoral training program related to field. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Eight years of advanced research experience with two years in a clinical setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of department's applicable state and federal regulatory standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Eligible for full faculty appointment at the University of Utah.
  • Lead author of articles published in nationally-recognized peer-review journals.
  • Mentoring and teaching experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate supplies and equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
