Join a highly respected cardiac surgery team serving the greater Pittsburgh region at a 349-bed Level II Trauma hospital. We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant Cardiothoracic Surgery for a high-impact locums assignment beginning Mid-May 2026 with ongoing coverage for 6 8 months.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled PA with strong endoscopic vein harvesting experience to work alongside a collaborative cardiac surgery team in a well-supported clinical environment.

Monroeville, PA Position Highlights

• Schedule: Monday Friday 7:00 AM 3:30 PM (8-hour shifts, 30-min lunch included)

• FTE: 1.0 (20 shifts per month)

• Call: No call required

• Weekend Coverage: Possible rounding 1 weekend per month (4 hours each day)

• EMR: EPIC

• Start Date: Mid-May 2026

• Assignment Length: 6 8 months

Competitive Compensation

$140 $160 per hour (for candidates outside 50-mile radius)
Holiday Rate: 1.5x hourly rate
Orientation: Paid at regular hourly rate

Clinical Responsibilities Operating Room

• Endoscopic Vein Harvest (EVH) Venapax & Maquet systems

• First assisting in cardiac surgery cases

Inpatient Care

• Postoperative management

• Writing progress notes and placing orders

• Removing drains and pacing wires

• Admissions, discharges, and consults

Clinic (1 day per week)

• Post-op follow-ups

• New patient consultations (with surgeon)

• Preoperative education

• Outpatient phone triage

Case Mix

• CABG

• AVR

• MVR

• TAVR

• Approximately 150 open-heart surgeries per year

• Average daily census: 6 8 patients

Support & Team Environment

• Collaborative cardiac PA team

• Dedicated office staff

• 1 cardiac surgeon per day

• Established cardiovascular program

Qualifications

• Board Certified Physician Assistant

• Active Pennsylvania PA License (strongly preferred)

• PA DEA

• BLS & ACLS

• 2 3 years of cardiac surgery experience

• Proficiency in Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH)

Credentialing & Compliance

• Privileging timeframe: days

• Application must be completed within 10 days of receipt

• Required clearances:

  • Act 33 Child Abuse Registry

  • Act 34 PA State Police Check

  • Act 73 FBI Background Check
