This role focuses exclusively on inpatient obstetrics care, managing both low- and high-risk pregnancies, deliveries, and related procedures. The position offers the opportunity to support a busy L&D department alongside midwives and a collaborating OB/GYN team.

Job Details / Responsibilities
  • Practice Setting: Hospital-based OB/GYN Laborist
  • Beds: 30 total
  • Team: 1 OB/GYN, 2 midwives, 2 APPs, and full L&D support staff
  • EMR: Epic
  • Trauma Level: Affiliated with Cincinnati Children s Hospital
  • Onsite Services: Lab and ultrasound available
Patient Care Scope:
  • 70% low-risk pregnancies, 10% high-risk pregnancies
  • 25% of patients require C-section
  • Nursery Level II, averaging 5 admissions per day
  • No GYN clinic or surgeries strictly laborist responsibilities
Required Obstetrics Procedures:
  • Manage low- and high-risk pregnancies (including diabetes, toxemia, cardiac, renal, or pulmonary conditions)
  • Fetal heart rate (FHR) interpretation NST, CST, FSE
  • OB ultrasound interpretation and performance (Level I and II)
Labor & Delivery Procedures:
  • Routine and complicated vaginal deliveries
  • Low forceps and C-section decision-making
  • C-section deliveries, breech, multiple births, VBACs, and abruption management
  • Repair of 3rd and 4th degree perineal lacerations
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Board Certification in OB/GYN Required
  • Active Ohio Medical License Required
  • DEA License Required
  • Residency: ACGME or AOA-accredited OB/GYN program Required
  • Proficiency in:
    • Managing high-risk and low-risk obstetrics cases
    • Performing and interpreting OB ultrasounds
    • Labor & delivery procedures including C-sections, VBACs, and laceration repair
  • Experience with Epic EMR Preferred
