Job Description: A Radiology Practitioner Assistant (RPA) or Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) is an advanced practice provider (APP) certified and registered in radiography and is credentialed by the Certification Board for Radiology Practitioner Assistants (CBRPA) and/or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) to provide primary health care services in medical imaging with physician supervision . Within the physician/RPA relationship and under the supervision, guidance and discretion of the supervising physician RPAs exercise autonomy in decision making in the role of a primary health care provider with regard to patient assessment, patient management and in providing a broad range of radiology diagnostic and interventional services. Essential Functions During morning report, the RPA will evaluate the day's schedule of procedures with the supervising physician and other imaging staff to determine where his/her skills will be best utilized. Evaluate medical images, review preliminary reports and images with a supervising physician, and prepare technical reports that will be reviewed and signed off by the supervising physician. Assess and evaluate the physiologic and psychological responsiveness of each patient. Participate in patient management, following review with the supervising physician. Experience Validation of participation in continuing education activities with a minimum of 50 hours of continuing education credits in each biannual period. Licenses and Certifications Maintenance of an active radiographer registration status. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) skills. Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) skills. Physical Requirements Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
