About the Role:

The Machinist - Manual plays a critical role in the durable goods manufacturing process by operating manual machine tools to produce precision metal parts and components. This position requires a deep understanding of machining techniques, blueprints, and quality standards to ensure that all manufactured parts meet exact specifications. The machinist will be responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating lathes, mills, grinders, and other manual machines to fabricate parts from raw materials. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are essential to maintain a safe and efficient work environment. Ultimately, the role contributes directly to the production of high-quality products that meet customer and company standards in Gillette SC, GSC.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a manual machinist or in a similar role within manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Proficiency in using manual machine tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship or vocational training in machining.
  • Experience working in durable goods manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and material properties.
  • Certification from a recognized machining or manufacturing organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
  • Set up and operate manual machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to fabricate parts.
  • Measure and inspect finished products using precision instruments to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machines to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate production records and report any deviations or issues to supervisors promptly.
