Our Fiber Splicing Construction Maintenance Technician splices, maintains, and repairs all underground cables used to deliver Telephone, CATV, and high-speed Data services. Candidate must be available for on-call duty to investigate outages, coordinate with contractors for necessary repairs, and collect data for outage investigations. Duties and Responsibilities: Splices maintains, and repairs copper, coaxial and fiber cables from Central Office or Head End to the de-mark box located at the customer premises. Assists in the testing of fiber, coaxial, and copper cables; uses various fault locating equipment to isolate the source of trouble or complaint, including forward and reverse testing of HFC plant. Digs with a shovel to expose severed or damaged cable. May make a sketch of bad or damaged cable to send to Engineering for replacement or cable upgrade. Reads and interprets OTDR and fiber optic power meters and coaxial (db) power meter. Reads and interprets staking sheets and cable schematics to splice newly installed cable in pedestals and to terminate cable in cross connects; consisting of correctly marking cable pairs, using assigned cable counts and color code, and running jumpers; may also include bonding and grounding if needed. Runs pairs for service orders for Engineering and dispatch. Assists in small cut-overs for Engineering. MA Hoisting Certification SUMMARY Provides customer service and satisfaction by installing tanks, regulators, gas piping, and appliances, driving propane or oil truck over established route to deliver and sell products or render services, and/or working/assisting on excavation crew by performing some or all of the below duties: WORK HOURS Normal work schedule is M-F 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (Installation), or M-TH/T-F 6:30 am to 5 pm (Delivery) with a 1/2 hour lunch break. Maintains a Safe Driving Record. Installs, maintains, and picks up all size propane tanks. Installs gas piping meters, regulators, appliances, and all related equipment. Maintains stock and tools in service vehicle. Responsible for maintaining external appearance and both internal and external cleanliness of service vehicle. Complies with all DOT regulations as well as company procedures. Reports and records all safety violations and customer problems. Assists service-techs when needed including helping on jobs and emergency situations regarding tanks Fills, paints, repairs, and pumps down tanks and cylinders. Perform routine recommended maintenance on excavation equipment and keeping all equipment clean and in good working order. Must be able to manually dig in the ground and work in the outside environment as needed. Responsible for following proper Digsafe procedures. Operate line locating equipment as necessary. Proficient in the use of electronic devices. Drives truck safely and delivers petroleum products to customer's home or place of business in order to meet customer requirements and company productivity goals. Complies with company safety procedures and policies including safe transportation of hazardous materials. Collects money from customers and records transaction. Submits sales leads for potential business. Records detailed delivery information on route cards and fill out paperwork correctly. Attends seminars, training classes and delivery meetings sponsored by company. Pays close attention to delivery instructions and carries out any specific requests by dispatch or on tickets. Leaves yellow delivery slip at time of delivery with customer unless the bill to address is different, ticket requires special pricing, or it states to specifically leave the slip. Cleans inside and outside of truck on a routine basis. Performs pre-trip inspection before each shift and as required by law as well as routine maintenance on truck. Must be available to work on weekends as needed; works overtime when needed, up to 60 hours (following DOT regulations) during the winter season (October - April) Communicates with the office to exchange information as needed. Assists in performing tasks of other personnel within the department as needed. Works on various projects as assigned by Manager. At the end of each job, call into dispatch to clear and confirm next job and refresh your tablet. If additional work is needed at the customer's location, schedule a follow up note. Required to wear company provided uniforms. Always maintains and promotes company brand guidelines and core values (Friendly, Simple, Safe). SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty.
