What you will be doing
The Customer Service Associate is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service.
- Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently, handling cash, checks, and credit card transactions in accordance with company policies.
- Monitor customer lines and request additional cashier support when more than two customers are waiting or transactions are taking longer than expected.
- Provide assistance to customers by answering questions, directing them to products, and answering phone inquiries.
- Help prevent shrink by assisting fellow cashiers in spotting items on carts or undercarriages that may be overlooked.
- Keep the register area clean and stocked with necessary supplies such as bags, receipt paper, and pens.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance, which is an essential function of this position.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for both customers and employees through attentiveness and adherence to safety practices.
- Represent Norfolk Hardware and Norfolk Kitchen & Bath professionally at all times and address all customer interactions with a courteous and positive attitude.
Requirements:
Candidates will have the following experience & knowledge:
- Strong verbal communication and customer service skills in both face-to-face and phone interactions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer proficiency, including the use of point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Capability to assist customers with product questions and inquiries.
- Basic math skills for handling cash and processing transactions.
- Accurate handling of various payment types including cash, credit, and checks.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a customer service or cashier role.
- Experience in a hardware store or similar retail environment is preferred.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Must maintain a neat, professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to operate a computer, view screens, and use a keyboard and mouse.
- Able to communicate clearly and verbally with customers.
- Capable of reading small print on price tags and computer screens.
- Occasionally required to lift and move up to 25 lbs.
- May occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
