Job Description

APP fellow may be required to attend academic sessions and/or complete presentations/lectures/QI projects as determined by APP Fellowship Program.

The Dermatology APP Fellow will receive 1 year of training in Charleston, SC where they will train in clinic alongside physician learners such as residents and fellows in learning a comprehensive approach to patient care. This includes specialized training in therapeutic procedures such as biopsies, advanced injections and cryotherapy.

APPs who have completed all fellowship requirements, will be transitioned to a full-time position in dermatology in Lancaster, SC. Two-year post fellowship commitment is required.

Fair Labor Standards Act: Salaried with a housing stipend for training in Charleston, SC

Hours per week: 40; with additional didactic requirements

Scheduled Shift: M F

Patient Focus: Outpatient, minimal inpatient

Patient Age Range: 0 years-death

Preferred Training:

Completion of an accredited NP Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below

    • FNP (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.

Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

All certifications must be current and complete prior to start:

Basic Life Support

If applicable, DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Job Duties:

  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Performs therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief
  • Skin biopsy
  • KOH exam
  • Scabies prep
  • Cryotherapy
  • Intralesional injection
  • Suturing
  • Topical and injectable local anesthetics
  • Assisting in Mohs surgery
  • Debridement
  • Ultraviolet light therapy
  • Curettage and electrodessication
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided when appropriate
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
