The term of employment will be approximately 14 weeks. There is the potential for continued employment to follow, but it is not guaranteed. Amazing Athletes is the premier, sports-based enrichment program in the country. We are currently in need of instructors to teach an educational sports & fitness program to preschool age children (ages 2-6) at various preschools and daycare centers located in Union, Morris & Essex counties . Hours are part time (10-20 hours / week) to start with room to grow . Classes are scheduled in 30-minute time slots between the hours of 9 00 AM - 4 30 PM, M-F. Classes may be scattered throughout the day with no more than 4-5 classes per day. Training and sports equipment will be provided. Some experience working in early childhood education is preferred. This is a permanent part time position. Our coaches will begin with training in the Amazing Athletes methods, executing demonstrations in various childcare centers in the territory, starting new classes, enrolling students and looking to consistently grow classes. We are looking to add qualified, experienced, early-childhood teachers and coaches to join our program and be the face of the company! Introduction We have an exciting career opportunity for a Head Teacher who will provide teaching and behavior reduction programs for students with autism in an educational setting in order to meet individual therapeutic needs. The Head Teacher will also assist the classroom Lead Teacher with staff supervision, student goal selections, and assessments, and will assume the role of Lead Teacher in their absence. Primary Responsibilities Teaching and Behavior Management Assist Lead Teacher in providing individual attention to student(s) during individual and group sessions. Identify appropriate and inappropriate student behaviors and acquire baseline data. Implement Individual Education Program (IEP) goals (teaching and reducing behavior) using behavioral model appropriately and consistently. Management of maladaptive behaviors appropriately, including tantrums, self-injury, and aggression. Prepare daily tasks and materials, including baseline of program. Record and measure effectiveness of programs and mastery level by collecting teaching and behavior management data, and maintaining graphs for all teaching and behavior programs; including book reviews . Assist Lead Teacher with functional analysis of behavior. Develop and implement age appropriate reinforcement menu and system. Assist in conducting and participating in group activities utilizing the leader/prompter model; assist staff members in supervising students on all activities. Build positive relationships with students; recognize and respect the rights of students. Prepare for and participate in transitions of students to/from other programs. Assist in developing appropriate community experience goals. Assist Lead Teacher in review of progress reports and summaries, including placement of IEP and progress reports framework in appropriate folders on computer. Evaluation and Program Development In conjunction with Lead Teacher, develop curriculum, write programs, and prepare materials. Assist Lead Teacher with IEP review for each student, ensuring updates three times/year. In conjunction with speech, physical education, clinical, and home program staff, prepare proposals for behavior reduction programs. Participate in IEP meetings as needed Develop and implement effective schedules for each student. Analyze and determine program progress; assist in troubleshooting problem areas. Perform reliability checks on students' behavior reduction programs. Report Writing Develop progress reports with detailed analysis of progress and problem areas on student's program three times per year and submit to Lead Teacher. Develop and maintain updated IEPs according to outlined schedule provided by the Director of Educational Services. Prepare summaries to provide in-depth analysis of progress and problem areas. Communication with Staff and Parents Build collaborative relationships with all staff members; provide timely feedback as needed. Maintain professional demeanor and ensure confidentiality with regard to students, families, and staff. Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings. Review each group activity on an annual basis and provide feedback to staff on at least two activities. Attend and participate in weekly meetings with supervisor. Maintain positive and professional rapport with families through daily notes or phone calls. Attend and participate in home visits according to contractual agreement with parents; help identify needs or problem areas in the home; prescribe programs appropriate to the home setting (with the assistance of the home consultant or supervisor). Assist in parent training practicum during the parent's school visits, when appropriate. Training Assist Lead Teacher with training for classroom staff. Attend in-service trainings provided throughout the year. Serve as mentor to new classroom staff as needed. Conduct monthly classroom discussion groups. Other Develop and update substitute information packet for each student. Review summer packets for completeness. Assist with management of classroom budget. Provide coverage for students during staff absences, PE groups, and community outings. Assist with bus duty and transition to Extended Day Program (EDP). Maintain daily student attendance. Job Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree in special education or related field New Jersey Certification in Special Education/Teacher of the Handicapped New Jersey Certification in Elementary Education and Teacher of Students with Disabilities Experience: Two years' experience working with students with autism. Physical Requirements Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time during the work day, including bending, squatting, kneeling, stretching and stooping; and reaching above shoulder level. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to utilize and maintain physical restraint with students as needed for up to 60 minutes. Mobility to ensure the safety of students at all times.
