What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking For We are currently seeking a full-time (40 hours per week) Instructional Support Technician IV to support the Fire Protection (FP) program. This position is located at the Cascade campus. Successful candidates will have experience working in Fire Protection, ideally with experience in supporting a Fire Academy.
The Instructional Support Technician (IST) IV plays a vital role in supporting the faculty, staff and students in the FP program. This position's primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following duties.
- Overseeing the daily operations of the fire bay within Portland Community College's Fire Protection program.
- This role ensures the efficient functioning of bay spaces by managing inventory, ordering and maintaining equipment
- Overseeing scheduling and task prioritization of all Lab Technicians.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, ensuring all resources, including materials and equipment, are procured, tracked, and utilized efficiently; Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs promptly, minimizing downtime and ensuring uninterrupted class and lab activities.
- In charge of facilitating turnout gear to academy students, hazmat students, and staff. (non-combat turnouts, combat turnouts, hoods, helmets, gloves, boots, and SCBA masks)
- Oversee the operations of FitPro Ultra software, including scheduling fit testing for students and staff involved in live fire training.
- Develop and manage the weekly schedule for academy students encompassing weekly leaders, house duties and adjustments to engine company assignments.
IST IVs work well both independently and as part of a team, responding to a variety of situations. Successful IST IVs have the ability to be highly organized, self-motivated and seek out assistance from other college staff as needed. This position will be required to work weekends to support the Fire Academy needs.

- Experience managing Fire equipment inventory, maintenance and acquisition
- Experience supporting all aspects a Fire Academy
- Proven organizational skills with the ability to develop and manage the weekly schedule for academy students encompassing weekly leaders, house duties and adjustments to engine company assignments.
- Familiarity with care and maintenance of student and faculty turnout gear
- Demonstrated experience supporting a live burn experience for students
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of post-secondary education in a specific technical discipline appropriate to the instructional support.
- Three years of experience in the technical area are required; relevant experience may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Must have proven written and oral communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform.
- Proven ability to lead others and evaluate performance. Depending on laboratory assignment, some positions may also require specialized knowledge and program-specific certifications.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work pressure, disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis.
Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills.
Working conditions may be somewhat disagreeable requiring occasional exposure to safety hazards, noise and temperature extremes.
Some learned physical skills are required. Physical effort such as frequent standing, walking and lifting; guiding and/or carrying of lightweight materials or equipment; occasional periods of sustained effort.

How We Determine Initial Salary Placement The first two steps of the range are: $26.52 to $28.13 per hour. Higher hourly placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity.
