The Executive Director of the Texas Council of Public University Presidents and Chancellors ("CPUPC") is the chief administrative officer of the Council, appointed by and responsible to Council members. The Executive Director promotes and furthers the CPUPC mission by implementing Council policies, initiatives, plans, and directives. Ideally, the person appointed will have a background/experience in public higher education, be familiar with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and a have a fundamental understanding of the workings of the Texas legislature.
The Executive Director must have a willingness to succeed as the sole employee of the Council while managing the overall financial stewardship of CPUPC and handling the organization's day-to-day budget and operations. The Executive Director exercises a significant role in the planning and coordination of programs that align with the Council's initiatives and priorities, including those that promote the value of Texas public higher education. The Executive Director also provides administrative support to the Texas Enrollment Managers' Sub-Committee and a committee supporting the Deans and Directors of Texas' Honors Colleges.
The Executive Director works with the Council's chair, executive committee, and the overall Council membership, as well as with other Texas state officials. In this role, the Executive Director will also collaborate and build effective relationships with other higher education organizations that support Texas' private institutions and its community colleges.
The Council will evaluate the performance of the Executive Director on an annual basis using the position description as a basis for evaluation.
