We are searching for candidates that meet the required qualifications and experience and are able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Job Summary:

Provides sign language interpreting and transliterating services for classes, labs, college activities, and campus interactions to ensure equal communication access for Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals. Maintains availability schedule and supports faculty and staff with related resources.

Required Qualifications:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide interpreting /transliterating services and maintain a regular schedule of interpreting/transliterating services for Deaf/Hard of Hearing faculty and staff at Collin College.
  • Accept regular or substitute interpreting assignments for Deaf/Hard of Hearing faculty and staff as necessary.
  • Assist Deaf/Hard of Hearing Coordinator with scheduling and dispatching interpreter assignments.
  • Provide supplemental instruction and oversight of student interns.
  • Assist in creating an atmosphere of cordiality and service for the ASL/ITP program through communicating effectively in person, by email, and in online/virtual platforms.
  • Assist with Deaf/Hard of Hearing-related outreach activities and, when possible, with Academic Affairs activities.
  • Provide support and information to ACCESS Center for students requesting services and accommodations.
  • Attend and participate in interpreter-related conferences, meetings, in-service training, and workshops as needed.
  • Provide basic coverage when needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Current Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS), Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification, or current national equivalent certification.


Licenses & Certifications

Part-time interpreter salary grade/hourly rate is determined based on certification level:

INTERPRETER I (Salary Grade 212HR) $32.00
BEI Basic certification or equivalent
Equivalent certifications: BEI Level I, NIC


INTERPRETER II (Salary Grade 213HR) $33.50
BEI Level II certification or equivalent
Equivalent certifications: CI, CT, IC, IT


INTERPRETER III (Salary Grade 214HR) $38.50
BEI Advanced certification or equivalent
Equivalent certifications: BEi Level III, NIC Advanced, CSC, IC/TC, CI/CT, RSC, CDI


INTERPRETER IV (Salary Grade 215HR) $43.25
BEI Level IV certification or equivalent
Equivalent certifications: MCSC, SCL


INTERPRETER V (Salary Grade 216HR) $46.00
BEI Master certification or equivalent
Equivalent certifications: BEi Level V, NIC Master

NOTE: Part-time Interpreters will receive a 10% pay differential for nights after 5 p.m. and weekends.
