Full job description Job Overview This position is responsible for the front office procedures that are accomplished in order to facilitate a smooth process for patient registration and checkout. Responsibilities - Greets all patients, families and visitors, verifies appointment information, provides directions and responds to inquiries as appropriate - Answers phone, takes messages, provides information and assistance as appropriate; routes to appropriate party as needed - Receives prescription and re-fill requests from patient, distributes dispensed medication to patients, requests signature and records activity in log in accordance with policy - Adhere to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality. - Receives prescription and re-fill requests from patient, distributes dispensed medication to patients, requests signature and records activity in log in accordance with policy - Verifies insurance information, eligibility and benefit coverage with parent/guardian to ensure understanding of requirements and/or constraints effecting treatment - Arranges appointments for patients for medical care with providers as ordered by healthcare professional - Reviews patient registration information for updates and/or changes to primary and secondary insurance coverage to ensure accuracy of billing - Performs collection procedures for insurance co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances. Prepares and issues receipts for account payments. - Determines insurance eligibility; completes pre-certification information for referral appointments as needed - Coordinates and arranges for referral appointments with a variety of contracted providers as ordered by provider - As directed by healthcare provider, contacts emergency and police dispatchers to respond to urgent and/or emergency situations - Copies insurance card and attaches to registration documents to ensure accuracy for timely payment of claim Qualifications - Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar office setting is preferred. - Understanding of HIPAA regulations and compliance requirements. - Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
