Departmental Objective: To provide high levels of excellence and professionalism in rendering superior customer-focused services for the residential students of the University, with close attention to detail and with a caring and concerned approach, targeted at delivering outstanding results in serving customer needs and achieving high levels of customer satisfaction and devoted to a "students first" attitude.

Purpose of the Position: The purpose of this role is to perform preventive and reactive maintenance in university residential facilities. This role conducts initial trouble shooting, issue evaluation, and completes repairs ranging from routine to complex. Work performed in this role may include installing faucets, troubleshooting and repairing door locks, drywall repairs, appliance repairs, and similar maintenance work.

University Housing Maintenance Technicians directly impact the student experience by ensuring timely response to student work orders and by keeping residential facilities in good working order. This includes providing support throughout move in and move out periods (typically weekends).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position:
  • Under minimal supervision, must be able to trouble shoot and perform duties involving moderately complex carpentry, plumbing, understanding of HVAC systems, flooring/carpets and carpet tiles, ceiling tiles and frames, doors and locks, paint/patching of walls and ceilings, understanding of fire alarms/panels, gas fire places, electric/gas appliances, and electrical work such as ballasts, fluorescent and LED lighting.
  • Must have the ability to perform repairs in residential areas where students, faculty, or staff may be present.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Able to understand and follow written and oral instructions and to perform some manual labor.
  • Ability to escort vendors while on campus, for the purpose of answering questions and providing entry to secure areas.
  • Must have the ability to complete routine residential or commercial repairs, be able to prioritize work orders, and inform management of potential issues.
  • Must be able to work a daytime schedule and be on-call on a rotating basis. Additional hours may be required to complete summer room turnover or in an emergency.
  • Basic computer skills.


Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required : Education Required:
  • High school graduate or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma
  • Valid driver's license
Experience Required:
  • Experience using hand/tools.
  • Experience performing residential or commercial maintenance

Additional Consideration(s): Experience Preferred:
  • Experience working in a university or residential setting.
  • Experience performing moderately complex residential or commercial maintenance such as: residential appliance repairs and/or replacement, Installing new lighting fixtures, rebuilding flush valves
  • Experience using power drills, tap/die sets, power augers, or handsaws
