Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:

  • Master's in civil engineering, engineering technology or construction related field
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Suite programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficiency using various CAD programs such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Mastercam Read and Interpret Drawings
  • Machining principles and techniques
  • Standard safety practices and procedures related to Civil Engineering practices
  • Forklift experience
  • Experience towing and backing up a trailer
  • Capability of repeatedly lifting at least 60 lbs and working in a hot, dusty, noisy environment
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and implementing structural testing techniques following ACI, ASTM, and/or Texas DOT standards
  • Experience in fundamental sensor implementation to measure movement, stress, and strain
  • Experience in data acquisition, signal processing, and basic analysis
  • Basic structural engineering concepts
  • Basic mechanical engineering concepts
  • Steel and concrete construction techniques
  • Basic finite element analysis program knowledge such as RISA or Abacus
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
  • Electrical theory, electrician practices and procedures, electrical systems and equipment repair techniques
Job Description:

The Research Engineer will assist with the Infrastructure Research Laboratory (IRL) facility.

Job Duties:

  • Test the quality of manufactured products and materials by applying engineering standards, such as ACI, ASTM, and Texas DOT
  • Assist with capturing test data, analyzing data, drafting reports, publish and disseminate findings at meetings and help advise decision-makers on next steps
  • Provide facility and test equipment safety training to faculty, students, technicians, clients, and others
  • Supervise research technicians
  • Track equipment and facility usage
  • Prepare testing cost estimates
  • Maintain and repair testing equipment
  • Design and assist with fabricating JIGS, Fixtures, Load Frames, concrete molds, mounting plates, and various other things needed for testing products and materials
  • Other duties as assigned
