Muskegon Community College, an associate degree-granting institution of higher education, is a center for lifelong learning which provides a person the opportunity to attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs.

The Adjunct Instructor Pools function as a way for department chairs to view applicant materials in advance of a need, and determine if the applicant will be approved or not approved to be added to their pool of eligible applicants. Should a part-time instructional need arise in a given department, the department chair will look first at the approved applicants to see if anyone matches our needs, in which case they may make contact to schedule an interview.

Muskegon Community College is currently seeking candidates for an immediate need; Adjunct Librarian for Fall 2025.

General Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for reference desk services and supervising student workers in the absence of their supervisor, with possible bibliographic instruction and/or cataloging support. Variable hours may include weekends, evenings, and/or daytime hours, dependent on library needs and librarian availability.

Required Skills

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1.An MLIS or equivalent from an American Library Association accredited school.

2.Commitment to the community college philosophy and information literacy.

3.Familiarity with research databases, OCLC and Microsoft products such as Word and Excel.

4.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive and positive working environment.

5.Strong commitment to customer service.

6.Highly motivated and solution oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics and dedication to the mission of the college.

Essential Function:

1.Weekend and evening assignments as scheduled.

2.Answer reference questions from students, faculty, staff, and community members regarding research needs.

3.Assist students in the research process: topic selection, evaluation of sources, and proper documentation of references.

4.Have a strong commitment to customer service.

5.Have excellent technology skills and expertise in database searching and the utilization of Microsoft Office and Windows.

6.Assist students with research databases.

7.Present information literacy instruction to classes.

8.Assist with cataloging using OCLC and Sirsi WorkFlows.

9.Supervise student workers in the absence of their supervisor.

10. Make recommendations for book purchases.

11. Have knowledge of information literacy and promote the concept on the job.

12. Perform other duties as assigned.
