Job Description

Description:

Are you a veteran "grease monkey" who lives and breathes yellow iron? Rock Pros is looking for two highly skilled "gearheads" to be the backbone of our maintenance operation. We are hiring one master mechanic to cover the South/East area and another for the North/West, but both positions may be required to support either area as needed. You'll be provided with a company vehicle to support your work in the field. This isn't just about turning wrenches; it's about being the master of the iron in the pit and the man who keeps the entire plant humming. If you're the go-to guy for a broken-down crusher and you can read a hydraulic schematic like a road map, we want to talk to you.

We need individuals with a "go-and-up-for-anything" mindset, comfortable with extensive travel to various locations in Arizona and potentially Nevada. This role requires a clean driving record and an unrestricted driver's license.

Essential Responsibilities: Keeping the Iron Running

The Master Mechanic:

  • You're a master of your trade, expertly diagnosing and fixing all our yellow iron, from loaders and haul trucks to the plant's crushers and screens. When a piece of equipment goes down, you're the first one we call to get the rig back in the action.
  • You independently tackle the toughest breakdowns. You don't just fix what's broken; you find the root cause and implement preventative maintenance to keep it from happening again.
  • You handle the big jobs, from complete engine overhauls to "tearing down" transmissions. You know how to use specialized tools and make sure every job is done safely and efficiently.
  • You've got a deep understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems. You can troubleshoot the most complex malfunctions and communicate the extent of the repairs and the plan to the executive team.
  • You expertly diagnose and repair everything from a track-hoe and rubber duck to a skid steer/bobcat, dozer, or loader. You're the one to get the Grizzly back in action, fix the Mouth/Jaws on a crusher, and even perform maintenance on a troublesome mantle or bowl liner. Our plants include 3-deck screens, so your expertise on a plant's deck and conveyor system is crucial to keeping the entire operation running. Your goal is to mitigate downtime and keep the iron running.

Expert Welder & Fabricator:

  • When the plant is down and a part needs a quick fix, you're a go-to guy. You can lay down a solid bead to get the crew running again, whether it's on a feeder, a conveyor frame, or a grizzly.
  • You're not just a welder; you're a fabricator. You can take raw steel and turn it into a custom mount or a bracket to get the machine back in the action, creating a solution on the fly.

Leadership & Mentorship: The Crew's Go-To Guy

  • You lead by example and guide the less experienced mechanics on the crew.
  • You take on the role of a mentor, training junior mechanics and teaching them the ropes, ensuring our team is ready for the future.
  • You delegate tasks to the crew efficiently, making sure every repair is completed on time.
  • You foster a culture of shared knowledge and continuous learning.

Problem-Solving & Innovation: Maximizing Uptime

  • You apply your critical thinking skills to analyze complex equipment breakdowns and create smart repair strategies.
  • You identify opportunities to improve our maintenance practices, always looking for innovative solutions to enhance equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • You work closely with the operations crew to understand how the machines are used in the pit and on the plant, and tailor your maintenance strategies for maximum performance.

Additional Responsibilities: The "Parts House" and Paperwork

  • You can work independently and safely, with a solid understanding of rigging and lifting heavy components.
  • You maintain and take responsibility for a company-provided vehicle.
  • You maintain your personal toolkit and ensure you have all the specialty tools needed for the job.
  • You contribute to the preventative maintenance schedules to keep the iron running and minimize unexpected breakdowns.
  • You analyze maintenance data to spot trends and potential weaknesses, allowing for proactive, not reactive, maintenance.
  • You oversee the "parts house," making sure we're stocked with all the belts, bearings, screen clamps, and other consumables to prevent costly downtime.
  • You keep detailed, accurate records of all your repairs, parts used, and equipment conditions, along with timelines for future services and replacement schedules.
  • You may participate in the selection and procurement of new tools or equipment, ensuring we get a fair and reasonable price.

What You Bring to the Pit

Expert Communicator:

  • You can clearly explain complex mechanical problems and solutions to both the maintenance team and management. You know how to communicate in a way that is clear and easy for everyone to understand.
  • You are comfortable providing updates to the executive team, making sure they are informed about the extent of repairs and potential impact on operations.
  • You can lead a discussion to identify the best course of action during an unexpected breakdown.

Please do not apply if you do not have a broad range of knowledge in the items listed, specifically in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and plant machinery.

Requirements:

Our Guiding Principles:

  • Attitude: A positive, can-do attitude is essential to getting the job done safely and efficiently.

  • Proficiency in welding and fabrication.
  • A strong understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Must be able to meet all MSHA requirements.
