Repairs and maintains diesel industrial trucks by performing the following duties. Diagnose mechanical problems using charts, technical manuals, and experience. Reads job orders and observes and listens to truck in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures. Perform necessary mechanical repairs and adjustments, using tools and equipment stated above, in the following areas: air conditioning (requires certification)/heating, cab, instruments, brakes, frame, steering, suspension, tires, wheels, drive train, electrical system, engine system, trailer, refrigeration, and other components which may need repair. Also inspect components such as lights, airlines and mud-flaps to determine if they are in compliance with state and federal safety regulations, performing replacements or makes minor repairs. Installs new ignition systems, aligns front wheels, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts. Changes engine oil, other fluids and filters. Changes tires and brake components. Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and makes adjustments. Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired truck to verify conformance to specifications. Communicate with appropriate personnel to determine needs and advise when work is done. Complete fuel tickets, work orders, time cards and other required documents, using parts books and codes. Drive vehicles within company property and drive on public roads as required. Wash and fuel equipment when necessary. Assist in maintaining clean and orderly shop and equipment. May involve sweeping, scrubbing, painting and yard maintenance such as mowing yard, fence repair, snow removal, etc. Observe safety rules and regulations, shop work rules, company policy, and other posted or verbal instruction from management. Drive service vehicle to pick up parts from outside vendors and respond to road calls. Present a business appropriate appearance and conduct self in a professional manner at all times while representing DHT.
