The Director, Community Engagement position oversees the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia's Kehillah program and actively participates in the development of a comprehensive lay leadership development strategy for the Jewish Federation and the local Jewish community.
The Kehillah program weaves together a vibrant, collaborative, and interconnected Philadelphia Jewish community. There are eight Kehillot (Hebrew for community or neighborhood) throughout Greater Philadelphia. The Kehillah program centers on relational engagement with individuals, families, and underserved communities, creates a two-way feedback loop between the Kehillot and the Jewish Federation, and expands the pipeline of potential new leaders and supporters.
Each Kehillah is staffed by a Community Engagement Manager (CEM). The Director of Community Engagement supervises the CEM team. The position works cross functionally within the Jewish Federation in close collaboration with the Jewish Federation marketing, finance, affinity and fundraising teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Managing and supervising staff:Supervise a team of Community Engagement Managers, each of whom develops new relationships, manages existing relationships with partner agencies, and connects leadership to the work of the Federation.
Overseeing Kehillah Leadership• Work with the Director of Leadership Development and Governance to create onboarding workshops for Kehillah Chairs, Leadership and Coalition members.• Create connections to the work of the Leadership Development plan for congregational and agency leaders• Serve as a liaison to connect Jewish Federation affinity groups to the Kehillot
Developing and maintaining internal relationships• Serve as the liaison between the Community Engagement Managers and Federation's support departments (marketing, IT, finance) and externally-facing departments (Jewish Community Relations Council, fundraising and affinities). Create and maintain systems to support the flow of information between departments.• Supervises the Community Engagement Managers in the planning and coordination of community events and ensures effective engagement with the Events Coordinator and Marketing team.
Supporting strong stakeholder relationships• As part of the External Affairs team, steward relationships with top professionals and lay leadership at local synagogues and agencies. Identify opportunities for partnership. Promote opportunities to support Jewish Federation initiatives.
Strategic Planning• Work with the Community Engagement Managers to creatively develop and implement strategies to identify, engage and connect with new donors and leaders to the Jewish Federation and the community at large.
A valid driver's license, access to a car, in-force automobile insurance is a requirement of this position, as well as availability for periodic events and meetings outside of regular working hours.
