JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Shop Foreman, this position is responsible for assuring that County vehicles and equipment are available and in good repair at all times by performing a variety of skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of mechanized and other automotive-related equipment. PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES: Maintain a clean, functional, and safe shop environment by using appropriate safety equipment and procedures when performing duties. Perform the daily operations of equipment/vehicle maintenance for the Department and all other county vehicles. Adhere to all County policies and procedures, and all laws and regulations as they pertain to the management of assigned area. Maintain expert operating and maintenance knowledge of all vehicles and equipment owned, leased, or rented. Place Order for various parts and pick up such parts at supplier if necessary. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent with 5 years experience as an automotive technician, or an associates degree in automotive maintenance or related field, or vocational training in automotive maintenance or related field. CERTIFICATIONS: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) T1 thru T8 Certified OR Master Mechanic with ASE T1 thru T8 - Preferred. EXPERIENCE: Requires a journey level ability to independently accomplish tasks or projects of typical complexity in a consistent and accurate manner and in a variety of situations. Such a level is generally acquired through at least five years of experience in servicing, maintaining and repairing mechanized and automotive equipment such as: diesel engines, gas engines, and hydraulics. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES : Must have a journey level knowledge of standard practices, procedures, hazards, and safety precautions relevant to the mechanical and construction trade. Able to maintain courteous and effective working relationships with the public, County departments, co-workers and other agencies. Must function at the journey level in the adjustment, operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and automotive equipment, and in the use of mechanical tools, materials and diagnostic equipment. Must be able to accurately and effectively transmit and receive information that is necessary to the accomplishment of goals and objectives, including effective written and oral communications; and the ability to listen. Emergency Vehicle Technician II Bremerton/Kitsap Naval Base, Washington State Job Description: The Emergency Vehicle Technician II (EVT II) is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of firefighting apparatus, ambulances, and support vehicles. This includes systems such as hydraulics, electrical, engines, pumps, aerial devices, and onboard computers. This is a non-supervisory position that requires independent work, field support, and collaboration with team members. Duties and Responsibilities: Perform routine repairs as directed by the Master Mechanic. Document all repairs in the electronic vehicle maintenance system. Diagnose and repair the district fleet, including fire apparatus and support vehicles, using knowledge of automotive systems such as hydraulics, brakes and air brakes, ABS, gas and diesel engines, advanced electrical and onboard computers, fuel systems, transmissions, air systems, exhausts, axles and suspensions, fire pumps, foam systems, and aerial apparatus. Document all work in the electronic vehicle maintenance system. Diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic systems, mainline and portable water pumps, water valves, foam generating systems, and generators, following manufacturers' manuals. Document all work in the electronic vehicle maintenance system. Perform preventive maintenance on emergency response and support vehicles, including oil changes and safety checks, according to the preventive maintenance schedule.
