Evangelize accessibility across the organization, showing how it touches every part of the company Grow a program, embed accessibility into the lifecycle, and engage all teams from design onward Must be technical enough to describe how accessibility is implemented across the stack Ideal candidate should: Have experience integrating accessibility testing into the development lifecycle Understand and embed accessibility from design through deployment Have led development teams and understand the full software development lifecycle Director, Digital Accessibility Job Introduction We seek a dynamic Digital Accessibility Director to lead and expand a highly visible client-facing and internal program ensuring our digital products and services are accessible to all users, including people across a broad spectrum of abilities, and in compliance with relevant laws and standards. This role requires a leader with hands-on experience working in an environment where accessibility is embedded early in the software development lifecycle-across design, development, and delivery. You will advise leadership and be a trusted partner to design, engineering, product, procurement, contracts, operations, sales, and other business teams. Essential Duties Strategic Leadership Lead a comprehensive accessibility strategy aligned with the organization's goals Establish short- and long-term program objectives and drive organizational change Create scalable, repeatable processes and templates Advocate for accessibility initiatives at the executive level and across the organization Team Building and Management Recruit, train, and lead accessibility specialists, testers, and consultants Manage capacity, assignments, timelines, and budgets Provide mentorship and professional development Oversee tracking and reporting of accessibility-related progress Accessibility Testing and Assessment Oversee accessibility testing protocols and compliance (WCAG, ADA, Section 508) Provide architectural guidance (semantic HTML, ARIA usage, keyboard navigation, etc.) Conduct manual and automated testing with tools (axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, JAWS, NVDA, etc.) Produce compliance reports Consulting and Remediation Deliver revenue-generating accessibility consulting services Guide internal teams on accessibility best practices Manage client delivery expectations Develop remediation plans and collaborate across design, engineering, QA, and product Stakeholder Communication and Influence Communicate goals, progress, and outcomes Build documentation and toolkits Influence senior leadership Represent the organization at industry events Continuous Improvement Drive ongoing improvements and monitor KPIs Scale accessibility learning initiatives across the organization Stay current with trends and research Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate accessibility into CI/CD Minimum Requirements 10+ years software development, UX/UI, or technical leadership 5+ years digital accessibility experience (testing & remediation across web, mobile, media) Experience embedding accessibility into the lifecycle (shift-left) Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JS, React/Angular) Experience with audits, remediation, Agile accessibility integration Strong communication skills BA/BS in relevant field 2+ years managing professional teams (forecasting, tracking, performance, budget) Preferred Qualifications IAAP certifications (CPACC, WAS, CPWA) Native mobile accessibility and PDF remediation experience Regulated industry background (finance, healthcare, etc.) Experience authoring ACR/VPAT documents Knowledge of WAI-ARIA, UAAG, ATAG, EPUB specs Familiarity with SPA, RIA, AI/chat/voice UI patterns Knowledge of accessible metadata and tagging for DAM systems
