Hyperion Solutions is currently seeking an experienced manual Machinist to join our Hillside, NJ team, supporting the Titan Machine brand. Reporting to the NJ Shop Supervisor, this position plays an integral part on the team by producing new sheaves and worm and gear sets to keep elevators running safely, reliably, and efficiently. This position requires manual lathe experience and Vertical Turret lathe (Bullard) experience preferred to support our shop process flow. Primary Responsibilities: This role involves precision machining, including the ability to read precision measuring instruments such as inside and outside micrometers within 0.0005 inches and reviewing drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurate production. The machinist will operate and maintain horizontal and vertical lathes, milling machines and boring mills, radial drill presses, cylindrical and surface grinding equipment, and gear hobbing machinery. A working knowledge of welding structural steel assemblies is also required. The machinist will collaborate with other shop personnel and management to continually improve processes, including developing new fixturing and work-holding methods, exploring tooling alternatives, and improving routing efficiencies. They will maintain accurate shop routing for shop control and costing at the direction of the shop foreman, noting setup hours, task hours, and material inputs. Quality assurance responsibilities include checking output for workmanship and documenting any defects, as well as identifying the need for and performing machine maintenance and minor repairs. The machinist must adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment, and communicate with team members to ensure safe and effective operations. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Job Requirements: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Candidates must have at least five years of experience in a related machine shop environment, with manual lathe experience required and vertical turret lathe (Bullard) experience preferred. Certification from a vocational or trade school or university is desirable, as is apprenticeship or vocational training. Experience in an industrial machine shop environment with machine tools or mechanical assembly is essential. Elevator and/or motor shop experience is highly preferred, along with gear hobbing and/or worm and gear cutting experience. Training Outline: As part of onboarding and training, team members will complete training in areas related to their department. Following successful completion and certification, additional compensation will apply. Training areas may include vertical turret lathe (Bullard) operation, thread milling, gear hobbing, cylindrical grinding, and thread grinding. Capabilities: This role requires adaptability, with the ability to approach change positively and adjust to new procedures. Contributing to team success is essential, including providing resources or removing obstacles to help the team achieve its goals, sharing relevant information regularly, and demonstrating personal commitment to team responsibilities. Strong communication skills are important, including clear and effective verbal communication, appropriate nonverbal cues, and active listening. Bilingual Spanish language skills are preferred. Initiative is valued, with an expectation to take immediate action when problems arise, identify opportunities for efficiency, and avoid waiting for direction when proactive solutions can be implemented. Safety awareness is critical, requiring the ability to identify and address safety issues, correct unsafe conditions, demonstrate knowledge of safety regulations, and follow all safety and security procedures on the job.
