We also proudly have a Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program, which is an added layer of support for STEM students and has a goal of diversifying the STEM workforce. The Biology program is housed within the Biological, Earth, and Environmental Sciences (BEES) Department. It is a collaborative group of 10 full-time faculty members and 14 part time faculty members. As a Biology professor, you will have the opportunity to provide direction with a focus on increasing diversity within the discipline. REGIONAL SETTING For information on Tacoma and the surrounding area: Position Summary: This is a full-time tenure-track position that would be expected to teach courses in Organismal Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, General Cell Biology, and related courses. This position reports to the Dean for Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (SEM) and supports the broader scope of academic pathways at TCC. This position is expected to start in September 2026. This is an on-campus position with opportunities for hybrid and online teaching: TCC values in person lab experiences for our students. The current Collective Bargaining Agreement provides for a 176 day yearly contract running approximately from September 1 to June 15. The faculty member filling this position may be assigned classes to be taught during evenings or on Saturdays, or at our Gig Harbor campus. Tenure-track candidates are supported through a 3-year long tenure process, after which they are eligible for tenure. A one time stipend is paid for achievement of tenure and is currently $2650. Tenure-track faculty are assessed primarily on their teaching, service to the college, and community involvement. This may include performing research or writing grants; however the college strongly values other ways faculty choose to advance the college's mission. Prepare and teach courses in Organismal Biology for science majors and Introductory Cell Biology and Human Anatomy & Physiology for Allied Health students (approximately 15 instructional contact hours per week of lecture and lab). Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods including hybrid and online pedagogy, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions including student learning outcomes. Teaching assignments may include online and in-person formats. The faculty member will collaborate closely with the program chair, faculty, and staff to support student success and program quality. Prepare and deliver engaging instruction in assigned courses across Health Information disciplines, including Revenue cycle, Medical Coding, and Medical Billing. Five years' current work experience in the field of Health Information Management. Intermediate level computer and technology skills. Ability to inspire, motivate, teach and mentor students in the profession of Health Information Conditions of Employment Successful completion of a criminal history background check. Eligibility for Washington State vocational certification. Maintenance of AHIMA credential and continuing education requirements through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Permanent residence in Washington State. Part time faculty salary range is per credit hour starting at $1,217.70 - $1,457.68. Salary ranges are subject to any approved COLA's after initial placement. If applicable, Lab credit hours are paid at 50% the credit hour rate. Professional Services hours are paid at a flat rate of $46.00-$46.00 per hour. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will commensurate with educational background and experience per the 2024 Faculty Negotiated Agreement (Article 4.00 Academic Employee Compensation ). Part-time faculty may become eligible for healthcare and retirement benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half-time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time. Members may 'stack' workloads between other qualifying colleges. A part-time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach, to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part-time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options. Tacoma Community College offers offers one personal leave day per academic year if the PTF have been awarded a multi-quarter appointment. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field from an accredited college or university. Active AHIMA credential, such as Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Five years' current work experience in the field of Health Information Management. Intermediate level computer and technology skills. Ability to inspire, motivate, teach and mentor students in the profession of Health Information Conditions of Employment Successful completion of a criminal history background check. Eligibility for Washington State vocational certification. Maintenance of AHIMA credential and continuing education requirements through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Permanent residence in Washington State. Required work schedule and work environment Successful candidates can expect to be scheduled for 2 to 10 credits per quarter depending on enrollment and department needs. Part time faculty salary range is per credit hour starting at $1,217.70 - $1,457.68. Salary ranges are subject to any approved COLA's after initial placement. If applicable, Lab credit hours are paid at 50% the credit hour rate. Professional Services hours are paid at a flat rate of $46.00-$46.00 per hour. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will commensurate with educational background and experience per the 2024 Faculty Negotiated Agreement (Article 4.00 Academic Employee Compensation ). Part-time faculty may become eligible for healthcare and retirement benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half-time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time. Members may 'stack' workloads between other qualifying colleges. A part-time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach, to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part-time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options. Tacoma Community College offers offers one personal leave day per academic year if the PTF have been awarded a multi-quarter appointment. Sick leave is awarded every quarter based on the full-time equivalent teaching percent.
